Forgive my ignorance here---

I've decided it's time to create the Mother of all financial sites.

I'd like to include real-time (or even delayed) market indicies.

I'd also like to include dynamic charting of featured stocks, options, etc( again--it's o.k. if they're 20 minute delayed like YahooFinance.

What would be the best way to go about this? I really would like to have all the info included within the site, and not just provide links to outside market #'s.

I'd also like to keep my personal financial investment to a minimum. (I really don't want to pay an outside quoting service)

Is this even possible?

What would it take?

ASP? PHP? Would my host (Dreamhost) have to already have access to this info?

Again, forgive my ignorance on this issue.

TIA!

Good luck. It's (nearly) impossible to find unbranded feeds for free. Just try finding unbranded weather and news feeds.

Me thinks you're going to pay for a feed. But you might find something close at isyndicate.com. They have some feeds, but I don't know if that's what you're looking for.

Hey, Pugzly, have you ever used this?

If so, do I need to use frames to feature their info, or is it possible to incorporate it within my current (frameless) design?

OK, I know iSyndicate, did you know they are one of only two direct competitors for my new company? I follow what they do very very closely. The primary thing you can get from iSyndicate is a listing of headlines, tweaked to look like your site, but linking outside of your site to the originating website. This is for free. If you want to have it warpped in your own form you gotta pay a subscription fee, greater than you'd be comfortable with, from my guess.

You could probably craft a bot to scan the public information available form this site, or others like it, but I'll bet that would constitute copyright infringement, these sites pay money for the financial feed, they would be upset if you pirated it and redistributed it yourself! My take is this... No. You can't do this thing all on your own site without paying a bunch of money. It would be a cool site, but for cheap? I don't think so.

Your pal, -doc-

I've used isyndicate.com at a site. Check out the bottom of the page at DefensiveTactics.com

It's not bad, but they sometimes drop feeds and don't let you know. Then it looks like the feeds aren't updating. That's happened to me.

Right now I'm looking for unbranded weather feeds.....
