For all of you hardware geeks out there....

I just bought a Elsa Gloria II AGP video card and I don't think something is configured right in my bios because in the BIOS and in the OS it drops the video signal to the monitor and the monitor goes black....

Can anyone possibly help?

Hmm, I never had any problems of that kind with my nVidia graphic card... Anyway, I can only suggest you the following:

  • Try to use nVidia reference 'Detonator' drivers -> http://www.3dchipset.com/
  • Try to update BIOS on your graphic card and also on your motherboard
  • Try to disable Power Management in motherboard's BIOS and see if you'll get picture on your monitor
  • Check ELSA web site for support information -> http://www.elsa.com/

i already checked the bios and it is up-to-date....I will try the power management settings in the bios....wouldn't it turn back on though if a key was struck on the kybd?

Did you check both BIOSes (more particular the one that is located on the graphic card)? Hmm, I don't understand the last thing about keyboard... Anyway, try to disable PM just temporarily and see if you'll get picture on your monitor - If you do get picture then something is wrong either in the PM settings in your BIOS or in your OS (especially if you're using Win2K).

the card's bios is uptodate....i need to verify whether the mainboard's bios is uptodate for that card...I also need to check that my power supply is 300W according to Elsa's www site. The card drops the video signal even while viewing the BIOS...It's not a Win2K thing cuz I'm using Win98....the KYBD thing was referring to waking up the card if it was in fact going into pwr mgmt.

Now that you mentioned power supply check if your motherboard can provide enough power in the AGP slot, maybe the lack of power is causing the video signal to dissapear...

How do I check that? Is their something in the bios that tells how much power the AGP slot gets?

You can probably find that information in the manual for your MB... I remember that I saw some graphic cards that have to use extra power directly from the main power supply (and after reading a few pages about nVidia Quadro chipset I see that it is power hungry, too). BTW What MB do you have?
