Hmmm, anyone know if Napster has or ever did have a virus problem like that? No too many people use Gnutella to make it an actual problem, but EVERYONE uses Napster.

People mostly use those programs to search for mp3 files, so I really don't see how someone could download that shitty 8Kb exe file...

i thought its kinda funny. Why make a virus exe when someones trying to find mp3s.

A while ago i heard about a virus that was sent out with a forged letter from a virus protection company saying Run this to update your virus definitions. But the attachment was the source code to a virus, so it did nothing!

The thing with Gnutella is that you can search for any file type you want , unlike Napster which pretty much only handles mp3s because of that there is a much bigger security risk when using Gnutella

Really right now Napster is much better for Mp3s. Gnutella's becoming a big place basically to swap porn

gnutella is actually posing far more of a threat, and is harder to 'crack down' on. there is no central organisation like napster for the copyright folk to hit with a hefty fine. it seems to really cut out the middle man, from what ive heard, so its gonna be a heck of a lot harder to police.

No matter what people are sharing with Gnutella, someone must be really dumb to download 8Kb exe file and run it. If someone may think that he'll find some mp3's or pr0n inside that exe file, then he's a total idiot...

Slightly off topic here but something that has recently been bugging me.
How do Napster make their money ?? I mean I assume they must do to pay for the court battles and such like, but I can't remember seeing any adverts on the site and I don't think it costs me anything to use it.
Am I just being stupid (don't answer that I know the answer already)

Yes trixter, your being dumb.

Um, I think fairly large corporations handle Napsters legal fees. Im also assuming that they get rather large donations also.

Well Max, if you happen to be looking for a certain program then I could see where you would download the file. Like someone said, Gnutella isn't just for mp3's. I've only seen it once or twice but I think its similar to Scour Exchange, now that was a great service. I think it returned better results then Napster and there was sooo much more you could get off of it.

"Yes trixter, your being dumb."

way to prove your own superior intellect tough guy...

anyways, napster does run minimal advertisements (cdnow.com for example) within the actual program. i'm figuring their legal team takes a lessened fee based upon the amount of publicity they'll get from this case--think the whole o.j. simpson fiasco.
