Man, I watched a little WWF tonight, for the first time. Friend at work finally talked me into it. I couldn't believe how lame that whole thing was. Are we so desparate for entertainment that this kind of thing appeals to millions? What's wrong with us? Why is this kind of machistic scenario so popular? The last time I took a friend's suggestion to watch TV, I discovered the X-Files. I was expecting better.

WWF is starting to take over AU as well...personally I think it's pathetic. It is obviously staged and yet the presenters act like it the most realistic thing in the world. I could animate two of slime's slimies beating the fuck out of Darth Vader and it'd make more sense and ber more realistic...and they'd probably be better actors to.

Computer Senility. I had a friend once who had it. His name was Gilbert, but he prefered it if people called him 'Ramases Niblick the third...Kerplunk, Kerplunk, Whoops! Wheres my thribble?'... - Kryton, Red Dwarf.

Where I work you can't find a male employee who's not obsessed with it.. They wear the shirts...they argue over who's better and who's gonna win......it's pretty sad.

on the other hand, I'll occasionally flip through for a laugh.....and you can't deny the athleticism involved. Not easy work

Not every show on TV is idiotic. It's all in how you use it.

Anyone here seen a show called "Junkyard Wars" ("Scrapheap Challenge" in the U.K.)? Two teams of the mechanically inclined strive to build a particular machine (once it was a cannon; another time, a tractor for a tug-of-war; still another, a steam-powered car) out of what they find in the show's junkyard, in ten hours, from start to finish. They then compete to see who built the best machine. It's a fun show, and it's actually educational, as it teaches the viewer about what each team needs to find/build in order to make their machine work. There are few enough people who actually know the basic concepts behind how their own car works; it's frightening.

There was a great line in a recent Futurama: the group was at a horse race with a close finish. The judges go to the Quantum Replay and declare a winner in a "Quantum Finish", to which the Professor shouts, "No fair! You changed the outcome by observing it!"

I laughed, then I wondered how many people in the general public would've gotten it. Of course, this kind of thought is engendered by the fact that, when I made mention of a star called Alpha Centauri, people asked me if I was making it up. Then I remember, 50% of the population's IQs are under 100...

50%! That accounts for the sort of mass appeal the WWF markets to.
