Can any body tell me why my computer clock is losing time?

also, the win98 clock has a known bug that causes it to slow down. for a while, i was running win98 on what is now our webserver, and it lost a significant ammount of time (2 hours one night). restarting the machine would somehow set the clock to its proper time. i didnt replace the battery and it has kept time no problems after i switched to NT (and its now running openBSD). this might have been just an issue with early win98 versions. most of the problems with the clock slowing down were related to various nortons crap utilities i had running (which i certainly dont run anymore).

chances are that it is probably just the battery.

It sounds like you hit it right on the nose. I have win98 and norton utilities stuff on my machine. You were also right about the time correcting itself when I shut the system down. I guess it's time to chuck Norton.

Norton SUX!

Same problem here sometimes I lose anywhere from 2-30 minutes a night.
I have a little app called AtomTime now that runs at boot and checks my clock against the atomic clock.
