i've been having some trouble with my computer recently.

everytime i start up, i get an illegal operation. it's soooo annoying. it's some sort of 'svr32' (or 'srv32', whichever) error. i don't know what could be causing it. i've uninstalled all the programs i've gotten in the last month or so, thinking it could be a conflict, but i have seen no results. any help?

also, when i turn my computer on or off, there's this loud popping noise coming from my speakers...could it be that the speakers are getting old or is it something else? any help?

thanks.

For the error message you could either reinstall the software and then uninstall.

Or you could go and delete all references to the software from your registry.

i'm using windows 98 (first edition). it's an hp pavilion 6460. celeron 400mhz, 96mb sdram, 8mb ati rage pro turbo graphics. pretty crappy if you ask me.

i wouldn't feel too comfortable deleting stuff from the registry, mage...i could really screw the sucker up.

Do you run a home network? Cause that driver (servr32), is the 32 bit network driver for winblows. Try uninstalling your networking devices, including your modem and TCP/IP and then reinstalling them again.

If he's using DSL, he'd have a NIC installed.

you could try start>>run>>msconfig>> startup(tab) then look and see what it is trying to open that would give you that error.
