Hello!
I always dreamt of a keyboard with a keystroke counter led on it!

I then could charge my customers when i write them a program on a per-keystroke basis

no really! it would be nice to see how many strokes i made per day!

I know I had some friends who had something like this on their BSD boxes, seemed a pretty simple low-level hack really, but probably requiring 14,000 lines of code for Windows, heh heh.

(I ran into a case of driver-rot this weekend, and will probably have to reinstall my W2K system now. Expect a few anti-windows comments for the next few days, sorry in advance! :-)

<<For comparison, I have only ever formatted a drive for my Mac once, upon purchase of said drives.>>

dracusis, that's already invented!
such a thing comes with the microsoft intellipoint mouse driver!

but imo that is never a realistic value, cause you cant count metrics on a screen. you can only count pixels! and so thats very relative....

I remember once when working with removing dust and scratches from poorly scanned pictures taht I counted the number for clicks for a few minutes. Extrapolating the number to a whole workday gave we something like 100,000 clicks.
I am sure I did not work at that speed all day, but things like that sure adds up!

Someone makes a keystrokelogger that's a small, unobtrusive piece that looks like an adapter. It goes inline with the kb cord, and draws power parasitically from the kb connection. Imagine the fun: passwords, credit card numbers, on and on.

My mouse has been 5 mi., 1097 ft since 7/12/00... 11 mi., 1881 ft. total.( 7/23/99 )

That`s it for the useless trivia portion of our show.

linux comes with an applet that measures how far your mouse has traveled on the x and y axis seperately

i don't know but you might be able to make a software not hardware keylogger. easier to get on the victom... i mean volenteer.

threep wonders about his own keystroke count....
"would modifier keys count? because if you take 'alt+tab' out of my keystroke count, i think it would be halved!"
after alt+tabbing back to some work as the boss walks by, threep returns to the asylum, and carries on wasting time....

threep shakes his head at drac's misquotation of a horrid song:
"[accent]my mouse will walk FIVE HUNDRED miles...[/accent]"
...then curses dracusis for having gotten the ridiculous song stuck in his head.
