Well, I bought a dual-monitor vid card (Radeon VE) and so far it's been pretty sweet. The only downside is I wish I had two eyes so I can look at both at the same time. The only problems I'm having are the usual problems with compatibility since I play a lot of video games and most aren't coded for the dual setup. Other than that, I don't know how I could work without it Sort of like the mouse wheel. I also have a tv card so I watch on one screen and browse the net on the other.

Any of you guys out there with similar setups have any hints or tips for me?

Yeah!
I used to run a 3-monitor setup using Win98's feature. The biggest win was having full-screen browser, PS, and text editor windows simultaneously (no taskbar or alt-tab switching).

What saved me vicious amounts of time was dual-window browsing. Say you do a query on a mediocre search engine. Open a second browser window, and drag-and-drop links into your other window. You don't have to hit the back button and wait for that slow page to download/render. So sweet.

Once you get the feel for multi-window browse, you'll hate a single monitor.

I've worked this way in Photoshop before, my image maximized on one screen, all my pallettes laid out neatly on the other. Sweet. I have a friend who plays one of the flying games, network variety. He can open new windows with different views out the cockpit, and places the right and left views on the right and left monitors, and the main view out the front. Hunches up in the middle of them, crazy setup, fer sure!

Oooh yes!!! I want this!

I'm about to buy a 19" and I've got a 17" now.
Running w98 2ed w a TNT64 32 mb agp card and an extra pci-graph card lying around.
What more do I need to set up a dual monitor setup? And how do I do it?

As long as windows doesn't have a problem detecting and setting up both your cards, you should be fine. In your display properties, there should be an option to extend your desktop across both monitors.

However, I would recommend that you get a card that is specifically set up for dual monitors (like the Radeon VE or similar). That way you'll have less of a headache if you're not technically inclined.

The dual-head cards can be more of a headache. They've improved lately, but using the Win98 feature is pretty much pain free.

Cool!
Thanx guys, I'll let you know how it worked out.
(trips silently off wondering how to x-plain to the mrs why I really, really need another monitor on the workdesk together with the atari, the mac, the 486, the big pc and the portable from work...)
