Feel free to join in and send the guy (and his ISP and his clients) an email discussing his blatant theft....but please: leave out the idle threats, the pretense of authority (we're not speaking for Doc, we're just expressing our opinions of the theft!).

call the mofo then, if you're so upset (The general "you" NOT the specific "you")

++385 1 63 22 681

Geez--guy leaves his office # and no-one calls?

FWIW- I came here recently for the first time in a while (checking up on Butcher), saw Shiiiizzzzam was in trouble, and lurked---wanting to ensure Shiii's safety. Saw this whole copyright thread, and all the b.s. Figured I'd hang, although I've kinda lost the IT thing over the last six months or so....

So, which one of you brave men or women will make the call? Tell this guy what the asylum thinks???

Sheesh, I'll do it if you're all talk. I'm dissappointed ladies and Gents. I'm seeing lots of hot air, methinks.

P.S. Keep rockin' Butcher!
P.S.S. Shiii! Where would this place be without you???

P.S.S. Ducati- from what I've read, you seem like a good guy---all full of piss and vinegar as we all were at some time (sigh...). But don't count on Max to help you out on a hacking cause, 'cause I can tell you that Max is a true statesman of web knowledge (I'm continually astounded by the depths of his coding acumen), and I'll venture that he's entirely too mature (and intelligent...as Doc..) to get involved in such a fiasco.

Call the fucker. Not to start more b.s. but I'm calling "bullshit". You won't call him.

You're right, HeddaLettis.
It's perfectly embarrassing.

I'd say: If email *bombs* are the only weapon, then use it, but be better at it.

For what it's worth, here's the reply the guys host sent when I sent them a pleasantly worded email.

Not wanting to pay the long-distance charges to Croatia, not able to speak Croatian anyway, I instead used the letter that Mobrul wrote (see part I) and this was Mr. Skansi's reply:

quote:
Dear "Mr. David Humphreys",

thank You for the campaign You are providing, insulting my studio, who has an unfortune choose of some freelancers, which projects were taken, without knowing that the design were stolen from third parts. I'm not sure that You are aware of all internet pages on the world, and that You know all the stolen and legal design used for these pages. I took responsability and promiss that this will be corrected as soon as possible.

Some of my clients, forwarded an e-mail You sent to them, asking what is going on. I explained to them, what's realy happening, and also when they asked me who is this politeless gentleman calling himself Mr. David Humphreys and writting offensive and insulting mails, I told them that this is Your duty to let know clients whether they have a stolen design or not. I have to tell You that these mails are far bellow my level of comunication and education, so maybe You should ask Yourself if this is the right way to correct some problems!

Thank You for Your understanding Mr. David Humphreys,

Yours faithfuly

Ranko Skansi

Hedda, you do it your way and I'll do it mine. Those who have come down on me and others: do you have results or are you just pompous? I even used my real name.

OK, so, what exactly is this guy claiming? His english isn't great, and I can't quite tell what he's claiming. The best I can make out is that he has people *working* for him who are stealing. (Uh huh, right.) Or, he actually might be saying that it's a *coincidence* that his and our designs look alike. Either way...

Anyone want to clear this up for me?

Oh, and lets stop the emails that look like they're legal documents, we're not lawyers here.

Maybe its just me but I'm getting a "404 page not found" when I go the site Doc originally posted. Maybe he took it down?

He keeps saying this was done by freelancers but it has his name all over it. Even if he had freelancers doing his work for him(which I highly doubt) then he is still taking credit for someone elses's work.

Hey! I got a 404 too! This could be good. Then again, it's possible that we just lost track of where he moved it to.

Er, cancel that. The entrance.html one still works.

Here's another result of the email campaign. Apparently Mr. Kansi's clients are not too fond of him either.

Make sure all of his clients are notified of the problem. Ask his hosting service why they haven't taken action (nicely). Consider what ways we can publicise this little incident.

Well, I also heard back from Ranko Skansi, and heard similar tales of former "bad" employees, heh heh. I know he's pulled down some of the pages, what I am hoping he will agree to now is to simply pull down *everything* and start over. Apparently he comes from an old and proud family in Croatia, and we have caused quite a scandal in his social circles, something which he should need years to live down. I finished off with some design advice (please don't maximize the windows, etc...=) and recommended two top-notch freelancers I know if he truly wants to attempt to rebuild, he *does* use freelancers, doesn't he? Allgood & Maa, you were the two I recommended! Hope you didn't mind.

I also told him the best ways to set about restoring his reputation if he so desires, the first and foremost being to pull everything he himself did not create, and then to track down and apologize to everyone he can find, whether they knew about it yet or not! (That could actually work in his favor. Time will tell if he has the c*****ns to pull this off.)

Job pretty well done. Annoying copyright thief thoroughly chastened, now we should watch to make sure that all the bad stuff comes down, as it should. I will recommend short, to-the-point notes directed to Mr. Skansi himself as we noticed small bits he missed. (The virtual equivalent of "you missed a spot!") Heh. Congratulations, and thanks to all. This is not over yet, but our first skirmish didn't just take the hill, it leveled it!

Well I don't think I could have asked for more, there is nothing worse than having those you deam friends look down on you for being a cheat.
