Hello, Always been wondering....
I'm not a layer and i'm not into copyright stuff...but I notice that most of software writers just add:
(c) 19xx, 19yy Company ACME....

And these writters didn't really get copyright legal papers or had they property registered.

Now this kind of writting just like that w/o actually registration, can i protect the sofware developer against copying?

If person X steals software of person Y, can person Y press chargess on X knowing that Y have no legal proof that his property is copyrighted?

The way I understand copyright law, most (if not all) stuff is copyrighted simply by the act of you doing it (putting it on paper, burning it to a CD, etc.) You can register it, but it is not required.
There are no extra procedures that must be done.
Trademark and registered trademark and patent, however, are a different matter. These require some sort of legal procedings...don't know all of the details.
