i have an xtra monitor and video card and am interested in running a dual set up as well. I am running on Windows ME, and would like to know of any troubles you encountered along the way. I have never used a dual set up so i am not sure of the fine tuning involved (if any), I just gotta get these palettes outta my way.

Well.... despite the fact that I'm actually running two monitors.... I'm not much of an expert on the whole ordeal...

but here's the info I have to offer...

I'm running Win98 first of all.
As far as encountering problems..... I've had ZERO..... which of course pleases me to no end.

Now, you mentioned that you had both an extra monitor and an extra Vcard....
so I'm assuming you are going to run 2 Vcards then..... correct?

When I got my other monitor, I also picked up a new Vcard.... one that was designated for dual monitor setups.
I had a Voodoo3 installed.... I took it out to replace it with a Radeon VE for the dual setup.
I've heard that if you try to run two separeate cards, you are more apt to run into problems.....
but I don't know first hand.

There is a couple of threads in the ozone archive..... do a quick search for "dual monitor setup" .... see what yiou come up with....
I'm sure there's a few people around here with a bit more useful info than I have provided...

oh wait....
... one more thing....

YOU'RE GONNA LOVE IT!

this may be a stupid, very stupid question, but this image at the ati homepage looks like as there are two different types of interfaces. dont you connect both of your monitors via D-sub?

hmmm....
ya lost me on the "D-sub" comment.... I don't know what you mean....

......

... but I'll guess!

yes... there are two different "style" ports on it....
you are given an adapter to put on the monitor cable to plug into the card.
I think they do that so you can run a television as one of your monitors....
not sure though....

is that what you were getting at?

yes it is! thanx. (very interesting! adapter....!)

btw:
i may be wrong about the d-sub thing too, but afaik d-sub is the name of the interface/port on graphics card. old cards (very old cards!) had also a bnc-connection i think, which had an extra cable for R, G, B, HSYNC and VSYNC....
most of todays monitors still have these ports...
but as i already said, im not very sure about this.

edit: correction. just found out about the truth. a bnc connection is only possible on a monitor, graphics card dont have this. infact, a 15-pole d-sub connection features also analog RGB and HSYNC and VSYNC, which can be used to go with a bnc-monitor. huh. are you confused now?

Hey taxon, that's the exact same card I have. The adapter is because that other port is for a flat panel display. The card itself is pretty solid and it's good for gaming too.

Yep... looked up the flat panel thing today...

Yep... it's a decent card... nothing special.
It doesn't really support the only game I play besides Maelstrom these days....
but that's ok... I only play Tribes every 3 weeks or so now...

I've had no problems with Tribes or Tribes 2 at all. Maybe its your system. In fact, I haven't run into any problems with my vid card when it comes to games.

[edit] Well, I should mention that you should display dual-monitor support when playing games because most aren't coded for it. Just right-click the desktop, go to properties, settings, and disable your second monitor. You should then be able to play the game. If the game hangs or has problems, reboot to the one monitor setup, and you're good to go.

BTW, when I'm showing my friends my comp, I usually play a different movie on each screen for impressiveness.
