Well what do you think it is? I don't have a clue.

Well yes it is a box/basket of some description. Very old. All wood construction including pegs at the bottom, holding bottom to one piece overlapping side.

A few months back I searched the net far and wide. Antique sites. box and basket sites..
Early north american native indian sites. Folk art sites. Nothing even close.

I figure some of the clues are the 'patterns.' One looks sort of like a birds foot. the other is mandella like... and then there's a zig-zag pattern around the bottom.

Thought some of you might recognize the pattern... and then I'd at least have somewhere to start.

Hmmmmm interesting....it has a old look to it. The wood, what I can see of it doesn't look old. Maybe it's the picture. I see a ruler in the picture. How long and how high is it?
At first I thought as you do...Indian...but I really don't think so .... folk art ... maybe ...
maybe even amish.

My mom buys a lot of antiques and goes to auction a LOT. I've been going to estate sales and auctions since I was very young. I've never seen one before. I'll email her this and see what she has to say.
