So, I'm completing a CD version of a Web site for a client and they want shortcuts on the CD for their support staff pointing to key directories (where PDF files are held).

In other words, they want staff members to be able to stick in the CD and see shortcuts in the root directory for "Data Sheets," "Users Manuals," etc.

The problem is that I can't create a shortcut without a drive letter and the drive letter is different for each individual, depending on their CD-ROM drive. Is there a Windows code for the current drive letter? Is there a way to point the shortcut to something like "%CurrentDrive%\Data\Manuals"?

Thanks fo the help!

Perhaps instead of making shortcuts, you could stick an autorun menu on the cd?

There's already an autorun menu on the CD for users. The shortcuts are solely for the convenience of the support staff.

If it`s only for the support staff, how about a text field where they enter their own drive letter then enter that in your variable ?

Hmm? No, no, no... I'm not making a page of any kind. All they want are shortcuts -- you know, Windows shortcuts -- that point to certain directories. Just a convenient way to quickly open key directories.

I've thought of creating a simple HTML document with links that point to the directories, in which case the drive letter isn't necessary. But, I'm trying my best to give them exactly what they've asked for.
