Some people always came up with their own rules of thumb when doing something they love to do. Now, if there were rules of thumb in web designs, what would they be?

I like a lot of the stuff Yale has to say.

1. Use a pen and paper first
2. Think before you act
3. Come up with a site focus
4. Scratch out some designs
5. Look over designs for usability issues
6. Do the work.

That is pretty darn rough, but it is as close as I could get to the rules I follow. Web design is tricky since most anything is possible depending on your imagination.

You never design the exact same way twice.
