Well it seems after hours of waiting on tech support the reason that my main computer is not connecting to the internet is because Zonealarm screwed my TCP/IP! Even worse, the only way to fix this is to uninstall zonealarm, reinstall it, and then once again uninstall it. Now I have to find a way to fit a 2.8M .exe on a 1.4 floppy, because I dont have a CD burner on this computer. Anyone know how I could do this? This is gonna be one hell of a night.

why do you have to get the executable on a floppy? Why not drop the instal on your HDD and run it off of there. But 2.8m on a flooppy...mabye a self extracting archive. I would think they 'screwed you' if you were in safe mode deleting registry keys and extracting files out of cabs in dos or something. It wont be that bad.

I need the exe on floppy because I need to transfer it from this computer to my broken one. I cant get on the net from the broken one at all. Is there a way to get this 2.8M file from one computer to the next?

yeah a SEA, winzip and others have the option of self extracting archives. The 'zipped' material is stored in a .exe file that you double click on to unzip. You zip the install, you put it on a floppy, you double click on it and extract it.

Skatefx: You could look at using a file splitter. I have used KFK and it works very simply - see these (or go to Tucows):
www.ded.com/nonags/filesplit.html

edit: The KFK download page is:
www.katarncorp.com/english/gb/downl.htm

I don't think the other page links through properly]

Skatefx, I don't know how ZoneAlaram screwed your TCP/IP. Can you establish connection with your ISP. If you can establish connection with your ISP, but you can't open any web site afterwards, then you probably blocked some system application (i.e. under Windows 2000, you must allow "Services and controller app" to access internet). If you can't establish connection with your ISP at all, that means that your Winsock library is corrupted (I don't see how ZoneAlarm can damage that library) or your TCP/IP configuration is wrong (you should double check network connection properties).

Anyway, to transfer that file via two floppies, you can use PowerArchiver with SFX Maker addon...

Skatefx: I was wondering about the question mr.maX raises. I did something silly and managed to block my ftp software from accessing the Internet. Have a look through your ZA settings and try setting anything obviously connected from the full block (red cross) to the query on connection (question mark) and see if this helps. It wasn't obvious that that was the problem - I thought my FTP software had broken!!

Just a thought,

that or you can zip across multiple floppies, just create a zip archive to your floppy A, and then winzip should prompt you to insert a new floppy autmatically. When you unzip make sure you put the last floppy in first. Then Winzip will recognize the archive and prompt you to insert the first floppy.

What maX said. More detective work is needed.

If it is ZoneAlarm, then things are a bit too screwed for my tastes. Burn burn burn, format. (I would yank the HD and take it to a friend's house because he burns faster than I can. Actually, he would probably dump it into his other box and trouble-shoot the hell out it just so we know *exactly* what went wrong.)

simply using WinZip and specify that zip file is on floppy disk (so auto disk spanning will be turned on)
or just get WinRar and specify volume size.

I feel like I am just adding to the confusion but...

This kind of thing happend to me not too long ago. Did you install any other type of firewall recently? What happend to me was that I had one firewall name withheld and I then found ZoneAlarm. So uninstalled my first firewall and installed ZoneAlarm. When I did this, I could connect to the internet but I couldn't view any web pages.

So I uninstalled both of them and went through the registry and deleted all the keys to both firewalls. Installed ZoneAlarm and still nothing... I fianlly just installed both of them and tried to get on line and it works fine.

Go figure. I don't run both of them but I have to have both of them installed in order to view any web pages. I have had a few people look at it and they have no idea what was going on.
