I was thinking a bit. Just a thought, but if you discover some weird meteorite that's crashed into your backyard, and you start to feel a little funny, you know? Strange green antennai growing where none did before, that kind of thing? ANYway, try to remember not to include any of the green glowing 'goo' as your little 'giftie'. The last thing we need to be famous for is as outer space plague carriers, that would suck, and not be 'kewl'.

I don't think THE BOX should be painted. It should be covered in human flesh.

What's the log book going to be? Just a book? How about a scroll? Or maybe a signature bear? Or we could decorate a book to match the box.

kewl <- ? since when. And why?

Hmm... I saw this stuff at the hardware store the other day that's just like spray paint except that it ends up looking like hammered copper or steel or some such. How about black with the big rivety heads I mentioned before painted like copper. Imagine the lower half of a Dalek -- yeah, just like that.

My thinking for the log right now is a nice hardback journal. They have some at Barnes and Noble. Or maybe just a nice leather notepad cover that can be refilled. With a limit of one page per person (one side), it should last quite a while.

BTW, I hadn't mentioned it before, but we should sell some CafePress T-shirts on the Web site that say "I Passed THE BOX" or "I touched it!" or some such. Any proceeds can go toward THE BOX maintenance fund.

I like Wes' idea for the box

The log should, IMO, be some kind of big, black book. Like an old tome , "the Black Book of the Box".

honestly!

But seriously, this is turning out really good. I think we're gonna have to collect this together in another thread, ie: 'THE BOX Voting', or something like that. So we collect the box and it's contents into three diffrerent ideas, and people can vote on it, one psycho, one vote kinda thing. So each person who wants to be involved will do one post in the thread, allowing us to get an accurate number of people involved, and in their post they will include the number of which style they're are voting for...but do we wanna do a simple majority, or a 2/3 majority?

The posts should be short and sweet to keep down loading time, and no sigs, so something along the lines of

'I'm in. I vote 1'

Or something similar...

Skaarj: I agree with reitsma - Wes is the FATHER of THE BOX so its his call (it will save headaches later - too many cocks spoiling the brothel and all!!). We've had a good show of hands so the initial enthusiasm is there and can only grow as the project really gets rolling.

Wes: I like the idea for that spray (I'd vote for copper - but just mentioning the Daleks got me onside!!). Also you seem to be incurring costs here - do you have some kind of PayPal account thingy where people could stick a dollar or two?

Good point, mentioning the costs, Emp. I'm a little paranoid (we're in the asylum, remember?) on having my credit card number saved out there in the web, but I could send a bill by the good old mail. This way, the amount of money being possibly lost is specified. Any other way of transfering money abroad is very expensive for me.

Mmmhmm...but we still need to get a final number of who it's going to and where they are so that, since we're gonna leave all the decisions to Wes, he can decide the route the box will take.

I suggest a list inside the box, of who it's gone to and where it should go next. just to make things easier.

But...this is probably totally obvious

I think skarrjj has a good point about fiinding out who's in. I agree that THE BOX's route should not a be put through a randomizer, especially if you want to do hand-offs. I don't think THE ROUTE has to be pre-planned for the most part, but I do think we may have to plan it at some crucial points-like when the box has to jump oceans.

I can take it either way across the Atlantic, but only during certain window(I'll be a honeymoonin' in Italia-by the way Asylumites, I'm getting married this fall), and I bet Dracusis is the same with Austrailia. But after the crossings are made THE ROUTE can be pretty flexible.

I love a the gifties idea. A momento from your time with THE BOX.

I like Dracusis' scroll idea actually. A long piece of paper for each person to leave their mark. Kind of a traveling mural for the Asylum community. In the end Wes-THE FATHER OF THE BOX would have a piece of community art from artists all over the world. All of the Asylum working on one big piece of art

Actually that sounds like a cool web site idea.

The copper, studded box sounds cool, especially if it was a pelican case. I keep visualizing this strange case that looks like a prop from the Fifth Element or a Terry Gilliam movie.

Congratulations Tiki

My mind tells me to support Tiki on the subject of "BOX-routing". Passing the BOX between people on the same continent won't be a problem (I think ), the only real problem will be the oceans. But if people are flying across them this fall then that should be no problem.

oh my God, What a great idea! I'm definitely in.

I am more than an hour late for work just for reading most of the posts about THE BOX. I have to read more when I come home tonight, Swedish time.
Well, I don't travel much yet, but might have a smaller tour with my band later this year or next. I will let you know more when I know more about tour and travel.

Some of you people here really have some great ideas about THE BOX. I guess there will come lots of new Asylumnites after THE BOX's route has started. All must have a chance to join, don't you think? I mean, a predestined route for THE BOX would exclude all those who weren't members when it started. I like the idea that Wes had. If we have some sort of daily or weekly check where people are located in the world, it will be easier to find someone somewhat close to hand it over to. And only those who have not had the box yet could be on this route map thing. See what I mean? So you receive THE BOX, go home to open it and fill in THE LOG, and then go check at the website which person you could hand it over to. Either it is far away - if you will travel somewhere, or it is close. You could see it all at the site's TOUR MAP of THE BOX.

By the way, how can you put in where you live at the world map that I came upon from one of the messages here?

Kartis Shone:

are you talking about mr.maX's ozone locator?

I think that he said sometime ago that he was going to post a message telling people what they needed to do. There were some problems with the coordinates that were given.

I started a new thread for the locator but mr.maX is having a few technical difficulties (or something like that) and so it is closed. When they are fixed I'm sure he'll reopen it and people can start adding themselves again.

On the route planning business I suspect that will be half the fun negotiating with different inmates, possibly co-ordinating it with visiting someone you've always meant to visit, etc. It should all be v. interesting.

will follow it around the world..hehe

Just making sure you guys know I haven't abandoned this. Just trying to get some other things in order. I have, however, discovered that the model Pelican case I was looking at is a bit too small. I went to to Fry's to get a hands-on look at it. Gonna have to go up a size.

If you guys are willing to toss in a couple bucks apiece to help get this going, I'll look into setting up a PayPal account. And we need to talk about constructing a Web site, which will need to be functional before we start THE BOX on its journey.

Forgive me for the slow beginnings. Didn't expect this level of excitement. I'll continue to develop things as I can.
