I know this belongs in Print Graphics- but that section is not as busy as this side of the asylum. I am trying to use the knife tool and having trouble. I followed the directions in the help menu.

Microsoft directions are as follows:

To cut objects by using the knife tool:
1 Select the knife tool ().
2 Drag the pointer over the object. The knife cuts in a curved path.
To cut in a straight path, Alt-drag (Windows) or Option-drag (Mac OS) the knife tool.

hmmm. Seems easy enough, but when I am finished clicking and dragging, nothing happens! I am sure its a simple error on my end. . .

thanks.

Yes and no

You have most likely cut the path.
All you'll see after using the knife is a couple of extra node-points.

Now use the direct selection tool to select the part that has been cut loose (or any of the free ends) and go about your business.

gotcha! your advice works when I use the rectangle tool and draw a shape from scratch- then cut with the knife. The object I am trying to cut is a logo I received from a coworker. Would there be a difference?

As long as the logo is made up of bezier curves there should be no problem.

Can you distort it using the direct selection tool?
Then you're home free!

Just remember to ungroup the objects if they are previously grouped (ctrl+alt+G, I think)
