While reading through our little Ozone Survey thread, I noticed there are a few folks listing chess as a hobby.

Anyone want to participate in an Ozone chess tourney via correspondence? I know a great little free correspondence chess site that has tournaments and the like. With correspondence chess via a website, there will be no time pressure or trying to keep up with your moves on your own computer. Just go to the site, make a move when it is your turn, and that's it.

If enough folks raise their hands (like, say, 6 or more), I'll fill y'all in on what to do and I'll set up a tournament.

I like chess, i dont know about correspondence chess though. I was hoping more on the lines of games.com chess and perhaps just scheduling a time that would be fitting for your opponent.

If someone is willing to teach me correspondence chess though I would be more than happy to join.

There is nothing to learn in correspondence chess ... it's just played over a long period of time one move at a time. You could play it via snail mail by just sending a postcard with your next move written on it to your opponent. That's all.

With the internet now, though, correspondence chess can be played so simply. I use Stan's Netchess at: http://stansco.com/netchess/index.html . It's free to sign up and play. My player page is at http://stansco.com/cgi-bin/nc_ppp.cgi?1079 .

Anyone else interested? Just set yourself up at Stan's Netchess, report back here as to what your player name is and I'll start organizing a tourney. (To use the site's automated tourneys, all players have to be subsrcibers -- which means paying money -- I'll get around it just by setting up a web page with the match ups and results and tell you who to challenge etc. It won't be automated ... but no big deal. It will still be fun)

All right, folks. Keep signing up at Stan's Netchess and reporting back here. I'll put everything together and we'll kick off the tournament no later than Tuesday.

OK, I'm registered, as "DocOzone", naturally! I've played correspondence chess before, using postcards when a friend of mine moved from Minneapolis to Seattle. We played for four months, probably the best game I had ever played! Then he came back for a visit and we finsihed it in about 20 minutes, I made one stupid move and it was over, sigh.
