More on Gogle-bombs can be found at http://www.microcontentnews.com/articles/googlebombs.htm
And also http://www.ozoneasylum.com/Forum1/HTML/003839.html

I've taken my two most popular sites (in terms of traffic and linking) OZONE and Handson.nu, and added this line to the default copyright wording inserted on every page...

<a href="http://www.ozoneasylum.com/">Mad Scientists</a><br>

I think using the plural of scientists makes more sense, I know I'd be more likely to use that as a search parameter than the singular. This could be fun, I've been dying to come up with some kind Google bomb for us to play with! If all goes well, we could be the top listing in case anyone searches for the search terms "Mad Scientists". Add this to your page, and let's play!

Oh, how I wish my website were up and running. I will add this as soon as I do get it online, since Google bombs have a tendency to degrade over time (or at least that's what I've heard)--that way I can help keep the Asylum at the top, if it ever gets there.

(Well, I don't want to burst anyone's bubble, but I just did a Google search on "mad scientists," and we have slipped to the top of page 11. Personally, I don't think I've ever gone to the eleventh page of a Google search (Just to give you an example of how low page 11 is, "Mathematicians of the African Diaspora" made it to page 6). Either the rate at which links go up is going to have to increase or this bomb is going to fizzle quickly. Personally, I would suggest something more obscure, or something that already has a good positioning on Google--a search on "ozone," for example, turns up a page in www.ozones.com on page 2. But I would try obscurity first, ala "talentless hack.")

It might also help if this page was submitted to Google so it can follow the links to the links (hmmm..).

Keep an eye on this:
www.sitecook.com/cgi-bin/go.rb?domain=www.ozoneasylum.com&phrase1=Mad&phrase2=Scientists

Slime: As far as I'm aware that works a treat (I'd add font-size: 0px; too just to be sure) - one good idea I had a while back was to add such hidden text to the 'link to me' buttons like the ones across the bottom of this page. Adding keywords like e.g. 'Photoshop, coding, PHP, tutorials' should help boost the GN's ratings.

Actually, in most of the discussions about the concept behind GoogleBombing, they used web logs as one of the main vehicles for making these things work. If you were to post a link on your weblog posts, and other people had these "friends" pages, as in www.Livejournal.com then that link text could end up on thousands of new pages every day. Google is supposedly looking into ways to work around this, but it's not easy to differentiate between hard-coded pages and auto-generated pages. Go for it! Love the idea, wish my weblog was more active (maybe if I actually posted to it more than once every few months? ;-)

Weird, maybe we've discovered the dark side of the google-bomb backlash? I know they'd been searching for ways to not get caught out on these types of spoofs, this is interesting, maybe we can learn something new? Imagine, doing an anti-google-bomb on your competitors site! Heh heh. I'm still interested in keeping this experiment active, I don't know what, but I'm sure we'll learn something!

Maybe I am an optimist, but I think we have to wait on the next round when Google updates their data base. What you see now is based on the situation in early April or so.
Most likely, our updated pages with the "mad scientists" link were not crawled yet.
Just do the search for your site, wherever you added the "mad scientists" link, and view your site by clicking on "cached". You will see if the link appears or not.

I've added it to my sig at the GN first post here:
www.gurusnetwork.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000307

For people with buttons here try swapping the code for something like this:

code:
<a href="http://www.OzoneAsylum.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi" target="_top"><img
src="asylum.gif" height=31 width=88 border=0 alt="Ozones Asylum, home of the Mad
Scientists" title="Ozones Asylum, home of the Mad Scientists" /><span style="font-size:0px;
display:none; visibility:hidden;">Ozones Asylum, home of the Mad Scientists</span></a>

In fact for even more relevance change the name of the button to mad_scientists.gif as well.

In fact while you are at it do the same for the GN and HandsOn - throw keywords in like Photoshop and tutorials (as well as Flash, PHP, Javascript, etc. where appropriate).

Doc: You might want to try the revist-after meta tag and set the content for only a few days:

code:
<meta name="revisit-after" content="3" />

Possibly writing Google bomb all over this thread might not be helping but I doubt it!!

Wyvern: Check out the reference to blogrolling in the first link at the top of the page - that kind of thing really makes a difference.

Sash has a good point--the whole idea of the Google algorithm is to rank sites according to how popular they are on the web. "Google bombing" may be explicitly taking advantage of this, but isn't it really the same thing in the end? We're just helping the process along.

(I've also stopped checking to see where we are, lest I give Sash an ulcer .)
