can somone fill me in on the diferences for google vs. yahoo. From my understanding, google searches the entire wwww for keywords appearing throughout webpages, as yahoo mainly searches within the meta tags. . . ? hmmmm?

I am pleased with the speed google finds things.

There's a lot of information about Google and the way it works on their homepage:

http://www.google.com/technology/index.html
http://www.google.com/technology/whyuse.html

And I think that Yahoo's search is actually "powered by Google" (have a look at the results pages). Apart from that, Yahoo has a huge web site directory. Google has one, too, but I have no idea if Yahoo's is better or not, I usually find everything I need through a simple Google search.

Google pools results based on content, Yahoo pools results based on categories.

Example: If your site contains the terms "rubber", "baby", "buggy", and "bumpers" you will come up under those terms in google. In Yahoo you might come up under that category "Baby Accessories" if you happened to pay them absurd ammounts of money. Most people in the yahoo index either got very lucky or paid to be there. Meta Tags? I seriously doubt it, I havent ever read of any logic being applied to the 'whys' of Yahoo except cold hard cash. They stopped being a 'search engine' a very long time ago, I think of them more as a paid index. Like Dmoz.org but for profit.

We have chatted about Search engines once or twice so you might want to hit up the search to see if you can find any of our previous discussions. Another great resource is searchenginewatch.com.

yes. like moaiz said.
yahoo is NOT a www search engine. it only searches in its own categories.
