Does anyone have some tips regarding applications to check for broken links and unlinked files?

We've got a big site that we need to clean up, and lots of the pages are asp/db-driven with dynamic links. We'd like to scan the site for broken links and, more important, files that is just lying around taking up space without being linked to.

Any thoughts on a nifty solution for this?

I believe that Homesite can do this as well.

Thanks for the tips, guys.

Do homesite/dreamweaver handle dynamicly generated links as well?

It's about 2GB of data that needs to be checked, so it's quite a lot.

I think I've seen some standalone app for this somewhere, but it slipped my mind...

It sounds like you need something that will checks links on a live site, looking for 404s. HomeSite only checks links within a local file or project (collection of files). Dunno about DreamWeaver.

in dreamweaver you have a project with several files - everytime you change something like the filename or linkname or you save the project, a parser runs through all the sites checking for dead links.

Nimraw, check out Xenu's Link Sleuth. I've used it in the past, and I guess that it will do the job for you, too...

For quick and dirty checks of live pages, I use the WC3 link validator. Tantek Çelik's Favelet button on my Links bar makes it easy. It's probably not the right tool for 2GB of dynamic pages, but I thought it worth mentioning nonetheless.
