Well, it just might be that I'll be offered a position at our European office in the near future. I'd like to be well prepared and I'm hoping to get some tips about what it is like living in Germany (probably Munich on my part). (I know all about the oktoberfest and sauerkraut already )

Does anyone know how the salaries compare to other EU countries? (IT-business-sector)
What about the living expenses?

Possibly tricky questions to answer, but I'll bet everyone has an opinion on this one:
What's working in Germany like?
Is it really hierarchial and strict or is it possible to find a laid back openminded boss?
(in the sense that he can accpet that I don't always agree, not in the sense that I'll be wearing a T-shirt and Scottish Kilt to a customer meeting)

I guess there are some inmates that are not native germans living in germany. WS mebbe?
All comments welcome.
(I'll know if and what job in a couple of weeks.)

If it is expensive there or not depends where you come from!
I don't know about "Styx point of orgin" how their curency is compared to deutch mark. ´
Tell us where you from and this would be much easier.

cost: depends, but munich is definatly on the higher end of the scala...

work: again depends, might be very strict, but might be very eays going as well, depending on size and the amount of buerocracy in your company... say hi when you're around, chance might have it that I visit Munich during the next 12 months....

so long, a bit in a hurry,

Thanx TP.

Regarding buerocracy... well it's a global US based IT-company which probably means pretty strict.

The biggest reason I'm asking is that they'll call me within the next few weeks (when I'll be on vacation in italy) expecting an answer.

If I'll end end up there, I most certainly will post

Let me know, even though I'm a looong way from München...as for the other stuff...pay is good (though I'm not sure how much an IT specialist gets paid in the states...here pay is pretty good). München is expensive to live in.

Most German companies (at least those I worked for) are very heirachal in nature. However, for someone willing to work hard and network within the company (and maintain a good working relationship to management), the possiblities of advancement are really good.
