Preserved Topic: Book suggestions? (Page 1 of 1)

Hi guys.. I would like some opinions and suggestions about a book for PHP and MySQL. I would really like to learn it. I feel so lost without knowing anything about databases and how to even write a simple MySQL table..

I guesss I am looking for a simple book , for beginners, where its explained in Laymans terms how this stuff works and how to write a db and make it all work together (PHP and MySQL)

Any suggestions? I went to the book store but there is sooooo many of them...

I was looking at a good PHP book over in Borders the other night. I can't remember which for the life of me, but I'm almost certain it was an O'Reilly book. You really can't go wrong with anything in that series IMO. I own several and they always come highly recomended.

If you want a true beginners introduction to PHP and MySQL that will give you a good starting base I recommend
PHP fast & easy web development.

In going to Amazon get the link to paste, I noticed they are running a special with this book and the next one I was going to recommend. PHP and MySQL Web Development. If you don't think you need the beginners stuff and your ready to jump in a bit deeper, I thought this book covered an amazing amount of ground and did it in an understandable way.

Anyway, I was able to learn quite a bit from both these books and refer back to them often.

The one I read was PHP: Your visual blueprint for creating open source, server-side content by Paul Whitehead and Joel Desamero. Hope it helps, I don't know how much it will suit your needs, but it was very helpful to me.
