We have done so.

InI: I've probably not got the time but I'd love to see some of the things you (and some of the coding genii) come up with. Glad to hear things are going well .

InI - I just got such a vicarious boost from reading the above post.

Wow. I feel so good now, it's almost like all that stuff happened to me!

But ... since it happened to you ...
congratulations

Sounds like fun. Any other rules.
What kind of code is this? Javascript...?
Also if it was lets say DHTML would you have unlimited HTML and just 20 javascript commands?
Sorta confused, but if you explain these things to me I'm up for it, and if I can think of something to do.

Ini, gr8!

you can start by a 20 liner and i'll get inspired and make something!

i'm good w/ my "No If" coding , that is code a whole/mostly one line function w/o an "if" statement, so i'll probably be using that too!

Congrats, Ini! Glad to see things going good in your direction...

About the 20 lines thing...how about introducing that next month in the 5k challenge? Sounds like an interesting thing...

Hummm, sounds like fun, but would a 20 line PHotoshop Action count?

This idea, reminds me the GFA PUNCH ( if you don't know what I'm talking about, ask your grandpa )
If you want to make it in dhtml it gonna a real challenge, but I'd like to give it a try.

The "rules" should be clarified a little :
I think we shouldn't count the closing tags
what about the event handling like onload, onkeypress...
and nested instructions ? ( i.e. var1+=(var2-=var3) )
...

Well, folks, I thought I'd give it a go. So here's my 20 line prog, written in Unix C++. It's approximately 17 lines of code, counting variable declarations as one line and not counting opening and closing {}'s.

Nothing fancy. Basically, it takes a single word as input, all characters have to be uppercase and outputs the word in ASCII art form. However, the character set is very basic and consists of letters 5 lines tall and 3 characters wide. Also, there is a 20 character limit on the word.

Enjoy...

silence: nice pixel/ascii art ^__^, could you post a dump of the stdout, since we don't all have UNIX, and I'm not sure everybody could recompile your source for an other OS

InI: Doh! in the french magazine ST MAG, the GFA PUNCH were called ... GFA PUNCH, but who cares.
ok for the languages.

IMO variable declaration shouldn't count, only variable assignation should count.

interesting how a 20liner can get 1,04 MB when compiled!
didnt test the prog though.

Well, the output looks something like:

:edit: Well, typing out the output screws the formatting since this font is variable width so here's a text file with the output. Make sure to view it with a fixed width font, like Courier :edit:

output file

Most of the reason for the big executable size is the fact that it makes use of two dimensional arrays and those are space hogs. Also, I didn't really do any optimization for compilation since that wasn't needed as far as the specifications were concerned. (very cliche programmer's phrase ).

As far as the prog goes, you should be able to compile it with MS VisualC++ with minor changes.

I also agree that variable declarations shouldn't count.

Anyway, I'd love to see Slime or InI come up with something. Sounds like lots of fun.
