This one if for you MS Word users...

1. Type in NYC (New York City) and HIGHLIGHT it.
2. Go to SIZE, and click on 72 (the highest size).
3. Now go to Format and Click on FONT.
4. Choose WINGDINGS and click on OK.

I asked a friend about this and he the symbols ment "Death by the Jews and the Jews will be victorious"

Here Now try this one also in MS Word

1. Type in Q33NY (Flight Number Q33NY for one of the planes to hit the WTC) and HIGHLIGHT it.
2. Go to SIZE, and click on 72 (the highest size).
3. Now go to Format and Click on FONT.
4. Choose WINGDINGS and click on OK.

What the hell is this?

I know all about easter eggs, but isn't this just a little too odd?

"There's just one problem: Neither of the airliners involved in the attack on the World Trade Center bore the number "Q33NY."  The actual flight numbers were as follows: American Airlines Flight 11 and United Airlines Flight 175. It's clear, then, that someone carefully fabricated the sequence of numbers and letters in the email to achieve the desired effect."

Yup, just another one of those things to amuse the gullible.

And interpreting three symbols such as a skull, the star of David and a thumbs up gesture as "Death by the Jews and the Jews will be victorious" is beyond ludicrous.

Here's one I heard about on the news today: http://198.64.129.160/rumors/cool.htm

People see what they want to see. I find it more than ridiculous to think that a company would emulate imagery of the WTC attack to sell a refreshing drink. What the hell sense would that make? You don't allude to a terrifying event if you want attract sales. Some people are way too freaking sensitive and imaginative.

I think you're a litle confused on the concept of an "easter egg".

An easter egg is a hidden little special tidbit thrown in by the programmers.

What you are talking about is a fluke that involves superstitious interpretation of ding-bat characters in a font that existed long before any of this shit came about, as well as made up flight numbers as Warjournal pointed out.

Yes...indeed..this is a truly fascinating subject that we should continue to revisit as often as possible

Theres a FAQ on Easter Eggs?

Is our talk on Easter Eggs really all that frequent? The FAQ is awesome, but do we need to include a FAQ on every thread that has been started?

Jestah: They have come up now and again. People are welcome to add anything they think will be useful - if people don't think that is useful then they can vote it down (and eventually out). Hopefully if people get invovled and edit things that need editing and voting up the good FAQs and voting the crap out it will become and nicely self regulating thing. I'm certainly not going to loose any sleep if the Easter Eggs FAQ is voted into oblivion - its really up to everyone to decide what they or don't want in the FAQ.

Thats fair enough Emps.

Maybe I'm getting old, heh. I guess the traditional FAQ was what I was shooting for. A quick listing of maybe then top ten or twenty questions that get asked around here. What is a good book to learn Photoshop? Can someone recomemnd some reading to better my JavaScript skills. Something along those lines. What we have now is a general Asylum overview, which isn't exactly bad by any stretch, just not what I had in mind.

I guess in the end, all of those questions get covered anyway and we still do have the search and the forum so it isn't a big deal.

Jestah: I see what you mean but I think this could be much bigger and better than this. If you feel that there should be say 10 vital FAQs then create them and the create a '10 vital FAQs' node and link to them. If the voting system is used correctly then the FAQs which get the most use/visits would tend to be the ones that come out at the top of the pile. As well as an FAQ it also acts as a sort of archive referring people back to where we've already answered these questions or to important bits of the Asylum history and I think that is a good thing.

Lets be honest the Asylum could never have a conventional FAQ could it really??

No, no Emps. I'm not suggesting anything been left out. I'm just starting thing think maybe a bit too much is being added.

Maybe I'm being picky but do we really need a FAQ on the forums? If the title 'DHTML/JavaScript' didn't help and the description of 'DHTML and Javascript stuff should be discussed here.' didn't give it away then how helpful is a FAQ on it going to be? Which leads to the bigger issue of do we really need that FAQ for the DHTML/JavaScript Forum and a seperate FAQ for JavaScript/DHTML and another seperate FAQ for DHTML/JavaScript.?

Why not address all questions in one FAQ?

Don't take this the wrong way Emps. I think you guys did a wonderful job. It's extremely impressive. I just wonder whats necessary and what isn't?

A lot of those nodes are a little skimpy at the moment but one of the things we were aiming at was sketching out the FAQ so that people can fill in the information at a later date - if people haven't chosen to flesh that out and you think it needs fleshing out then go and do it. It really is that simple. TP and I can't add everything and it does rely on people adding things were they see that things need adding.

About the three nodes:

1. The first is for very specific information about the forum

2. Another one is related to relevant tutorials.

3. The final one is relevant questions.

I wasn't involved in the creation of the first 50 odd nodes (I think) and with hindsight I might have put something like 'Can you give me links to tutorials on X?' under the relevant FAQs node but we have a separate section for them. I don't see it being a big deal but none of the structure is fixed. We could theoretically move all the tutorial nodes so they are under the relevant FAQs and there is a node where you can request that a node is moved and if people think this is a good idea it can be done but you are the first person to bring this up - if more people think this is a good idea then I'll sort it out (it will take some time so I'd want to make sure that people were in favour of this as I won't be pleased if people say they want it moved back to the way things were as soon as I've made the change).

Its not my FAQ, its not TP's - its yours if you want something changing then change it and if it requires something you can't do (like renaming or moving) then pop a request under the relevant node. I may as well restate what I say in the first node:

quote:
This FAQ can only be as good as you make it: If you see a typo correct it; if a link is broken try and fix it; if a section seems a bit thin on content then add some if you can (if you can't search the forum - there is usually a post somewhere relating to something in here); if something is good vote for it; if it isn't edit it so that it is better or, as a last resort, vote it down; if you feel there is a section missing then add it.
