Preserved Topic: FAQ update (Page 1 of 1)

The FAQ now has simplified URLs (for ease of use and search engines) so if you know the node ID you can now link in using an address like:
http://faq.ozoneasylum.com/53/

All the old links will still work.

Just a quick note to say that TP has now implemented a feature which counts the number of visits a page has had. The information is displayed towards the top right corner of the FAQ and you can keep an eye on the most popular FAQs here:

Not of much interest at the moment but it should prove interesting over time. I know a few people have already linked into some of the FAQs and are spreading the links around outside of the Asylum (I have been as well). The FAQ has been indexed by Google (although I suspect a full index may take a little longer - the search engine friendly links will help ) so it should be interesting to see what kind of traffic that generates.

Anyway if you have any thoughts or ideas on how to improve the FAQ drop them into the appropriate node in 'the Wiki' section.

i thought that new simplified URLs worked from the beginning?

Yeah, I have one...for someone coming here (that is new), how is he/she/it supposed to find it? There are very little 'links' on the forum pages...maybe we need one that is a bit bigger, and noticeable...just a suggestion. Oh yeah, and is always in the same place...then it is easier to find. As of now, it's like a 'hidden' area...and I feel that a FAQ should be anything but hidden...

GRUMBLE: No we had to make sure that the FAQ was working first before implementing it (it just feels that way ).

WS: Interesting point - that link top right seems OK (although personally I'd like to see it larger and with possibly some big arrows pointing at it) but I wonder if it would be a good idea to have it on the compose and reply pages. I've also noticed in some of the archives (or somewhere else) that it is doubled up.

If anyone has any good ideas then throw them in - I presume when the Doc gets the front door up and running that it could prove more useful for directing new people to the FAQ.

btw: is the faq backupped by some kind?
im just asking cause of the easy way of abuse.

GRUMBLE: There is a rollback feature available to the admins which allows us to revert to a former version (also useful for when people mess things up). I'm sure there is plenty of potential for abuse so we do rely on people to do the right thing

Why not have a pop up screen when someone new registers so they know from the start about the faq

also, i noticed that a lot of links from the faq going to regular asylum-threads dont work.
probably because the thread has been deleted or archived. im talking mainly of sig and ps -threads
