Is there a way to renew your domain name yourself without going through your old host to do it...because me and my old host as you know was not on good terms is why I went to dreamhost. I am registered wit Bulkregistry and have contacted them just now. But, wanting more insight on if I can register it myself without going to the old host. Man I hope I don't have to deal with them again. Any help will be appreciated since i have never had to register before.

Hi Allgood,

Your best best is to contact the registrar like you've done already. If they give you any problems then you need to do a domain transfer to a different registrar. As long as your email address is in the admin contact info for the domain you will not have any problems making the transfer at register.com or godaddy.com (or others I would imagine.)

Hey Allgood! This can be an easy thing for you, Dreamhost has already dealt with this problem in the past. Check out this web link: https://kbase.newdream.net/index.cgi?area=2486 - the gist is this...

quote:
Transferring registrars is done by contacting the new registrar and telling them you wish to move your domain registration over to them.
To tell us you wish to transfer a domain to us, you simply have to add it through the "Add Domain" form on the main page of our web site. From there you pick how many years you'd like to renew it for when you transfer it (you have to renew a domain when doing a transfer at ALL registrars). Then, add it to your cart and check out!

This will result in you getting an email at the owner contact address for your domain within about an hour. If you follow the instructions in that email, you'll be able to approve the transfer to us! Once your transfer is complete, you won't be able to manage your domain through our page until you contact us and let us know the transfer has successfully gone through. Unfortunately, we cannot currently automate this step!

Easy!

I tried that Doc...and this is what they said.

Unfortunately we aren't going to be able to process the registrar
transfer for you at this time. The whole process takes about 2 weeks, but
your domain expires today. You're going to need to contact
bulkregister.com to renew your domain this time. If at any time after
it's renewed you'd like to transfer it to us you can do so from
domainitron. Sorry about that. If there's anything else we can do for you
please let us know and we'll be happy to help you out.

Don't want to renew with the old host cause they want alot of money to renew and I had thought Dreamhost took care of all this for me. Guess I should have checked for myself.
