Preserved Topic: Refrigerator sings the blues...

Ah, yes... July 4th. A day for picnics, fireworks and... a dying refrigerator.

Yep, I got to go fridge-shopping on Thursday. Our old (very-old) refrigerator began giving up the ghost, in that the freezer started keeping things exactly 32 degrees F (the ice was still frozen, but wet) and the fridge-portion had all the cooling power of a kitchen cabinet. After the fireworks were done, we wrapped up the day by throwing out all the food in both the fridge and freezer (we didn't want to take any chances with "Oh, I'm sure it's fine...").

Then, I had to sit home from work Friday (which I'm making up Saturday as I type), waiting for the new one to arrive. Of course, it was delivered at 5:30pm, meaning I stayed home for nothing!

On the plus side, it seems there have been remarkable improvements in refrigerator technology in the past two decades that I was unaware of, like low-power usage; a water filter for the ice maker and water dispenser; adjustable, leakproof shelves; and door shelves large enough to accomodate a two-liter bottle or gallon of milk.

So, the new fridge is chilling as we speak, awaiting the bounty of groceries my wife and I are going to go shopping for this evening. BTW, if your fridge ever dies and you have to get rid of everything, make a list of what you're throwing away. It'll make it so much easier to restock than if you walk into the store with, "Well, what do we need?" "Everything."

WJ- Fortunately, there's a recycling program in our area where they'll come and pick up our old fridge and pay us $35 for it. Not too shabby, and a lot easier than finding somewhere to stash it...

Wo wo woll since mah baby left meh *sniff* I found a new place to dwell *sob* ....

hmmm... old empty worn out fridge.... Fix it up a little... Would it make a nice computer case mod?

CPrompt - Oh, I know what you mean. Three years ago, I traded in my Camaro for a Saturn sedan. I was overjoyed at the amount of trunk space it had. Trunk space?!?

reitveld - You should see our TV! Something is off-kilter inside it, so that the bottom of the screen is scrunched down, the top is stretched, and we can't see the top couple of inches of the program. You know those program rating boxes at the beginning of shows (TV-PG, TV-G, that kind of thing)? We can see the very bottom of that box, to know that it's there. Otherwise, nothing. That was going to be our next big purchase, until ol' Frosty Joe gave up the ghost.

Wangenstein, that is a funny thing too, "cars" that is. I did the same thing (sorta). Kell and I went to look at cars and were looking at all kinds of cool cars. We ended up with a Ford Explorer because of the space.
