I didn't quite know under what catagory this would fit, so I threw it in here....

I was down at Barns and Noball <*ahem*> Noble and I was reading a book on networking, trying to figure out how to setup this webserver, and I read a command that you could trace the traffic with, but now I can't remeber what it was....so anyway....

Does anyone know what it is?

Thanks!

Maskkkk

it's probably
tracert

Used like so
tracert www.ozones.com

And it will track the bounces. Only on NT machines (and I'd assume XP but not sure)

actually, that's been available since about Win9x (if not before)... here's a bit more fun stuff..

ARP [sets the relationship between IP numbers and physical addresses (address resolution protocol]
IPCONFIG [will give you your Windows IP Configuration]
NBTSTAT [Protocol Statistics]
NET [a bunch of networking commands such a 'NET INIT' and stuff- type 'NET' to find out more]
NETSTAT [will show you who you're connected to and on what port]
PING [works as it sounds- a fun little way to spend a night]
ROUTE [playing with the routing tables]
TRACERT [as you said]

there were somemore (like telnet) but I forgot... it's been a while since those days...

whoo! lots of info here... but i'm wondering if you want to trace *network* traffic or *web server's* traffic.

in the latter case you should try to find the web server's log. otherwise, try the things the others have said.

good luck!

[edit: for graphic display of web traffic there are many log analyzers on the web. free ones too!]
