My wife is an excellant cook. She even does confections during the holidays. Man, she's good.

Twice she started some baking and left it to me. Simple instructions. Just take 'em out when the timer goes off. I can do that. So I followed her instructions. I even took some pictures.

The cinnamons rolls were an absolute mess. I wish I could have gotten some better pictures showing just how big they got, but they got destroyed when I took them out. Two pans of rolls *totally* filled the top half of the oven. Stuck to the sides and back. Yeah, pretty much destroyed when I took them out. Eating cinnamon roll chunks with a knife and fork was a new one on me.

The loaf of bread came out good. We didn't even get a quarter of it eaten before we had to toss it. Excellant eats when it cooled off.

My wife is an excellant cook, but she does have some baking issues - especially when she leaves it to me. Another time when she was baking, one of the cats got involved. "Move it!" "Meeooo!" "I said move!!" Believe me, it was a long time before the cat went back into the kitchen.

Those are some serious cinnamon rolls!

Your situation is just the opposite of mine. I love to cook and if I leave it up to my fiancee it usually turns out kind of funky.

You ever see that commercial for a restaurant (can't remember which one), shows a couple sitting down to a nice candle light dinner and the voice in the background says: " She not only cooks, she modifies!" Well that is my fiancee

This weekend Kell and I are going to make some Challah !!! That should be interesting. If we do I will take pictures.

By the way, I think that is the first time that I recall you referring to your wife as "My Wife" and not Woman or is that WarMage???!!!???

Later,

I have a friend who's a professional chef who gave me this bit of advice for when cooking things in the oven and it's been pretty much right on.

When you can smell it, it's just about done.

I second the pod people remark. Yikes!!! But if the bread tasted good, then I guess looks don't matter that much. We just got a bread machine and we have had disastrous results... until I took a look at the expiration date on the yeast we were using. Umm... let's just say it was *slightly* out of date. We just got some "fresher" yeast and I'm hoping that will help

You really can't beat freshly baked bread, boy am I getting hungry thinking about that!

Good eye, CPrompt. Calling her "wife" isn't a mistake I make often. Heh.

please don't tell me you refer to her a your 'woman'? Possessive are we? My older sister turned red at that...she didn't like it.

Sucks to be her...

Remind me of the time my father and I tried to make bread when my mom was out of town. We couldn't find a few ingredients so we left them out. "Baking Soda. Okay get the baking soda." . . ."I can't find it Dad." . . ."Eh we'll just skip that one" . . ."We'll skip this one too" . . ."and this one"

It turn out to be this huge biscuit thing that was hard and didn't taste good like biscuits, but the crows out back liked it.

Hey Osprey, that's about how I cook. Which might explain why I don't do too much of it. If I cook something I'll eat it, no matter how it turns out. But more often tham not I end up eating more charcoal flavored substance in one meal than most people do in a year.

Any idea where on that screwy food pyramid "substances resembling charcoal" goes?

When I first read the title of this thread, I was thinking you got a new job and were making a crapload of money lol

Ah ic, right below the "fats/oils/sugars" part.
1-2 servings daily.

I guess that puts me at something resembling "healthy." Woohoooo, probably the first time I've ever followed that pyramid
