A good starting tip for the forums is... if someone gives you grief, don't retailiate. Sit back, laugh at their petty attempts to manipulate your emotions, and create something really cool. Identity (logo) design is a tad too advanced for a learner, but you have to start somewhere right?

Check up on some tutorials from all over the place. Practice some effects in the image manipulation applications that you have. I've seen some really awesome stuff in MS Paint. But if you have any Adobe software... there's lots of good tutorial sites around:
http://www.thewebmachine.com/ <- Awesome site for effects in the Adobe Web Collection ***** http://www.psworkshop.net/ <- Growing archive ***** http://www.tutorialforums.com/ <- Friendly forums **** http://www.photoshopcafe.com/ <- Tutorials by an award-winning artist **** http://www.eyeball-design.com/ <- Good for interfacing ***

Most of all, study art in general. If you want to place your emphasis in identity design, study professional identities (not some of the few here). I mean study identities like Audi, Coca-Cola, Nike, Bank of America, the Presbyterian Church of the U.S.A., etc. If you want emphasis in web graphics design, study professional web sites like: http://www.2advanced.com/ and http://www.pixeled.com/.

Have fun! Digital art design is an awesome field to live and work inside.
