So, I got an e-mail today from a Frank Weimann of The Literary Group in New York. He says he loves my site (The Big Waste of Space) and asked if I think I have enough material for a book.

Let me say that again...a book.

Yep, still sounds odd.

I wasn't sure about it, but I've done a little searching and it seems legit. (They published the Darwin Award books, incidentally.) And apparently, this Weimann guy is the founder.

I told him I may be interested (yeah, I played it cool) and told him he might like to take a look at Texas Twisted. (I've been thinking Texas Twisted the book would be a great intermediate step to a TV show.)

But, if he's not interested in Texas Twisted, what part of The Big Waste of Space do you guys think could develop into a good book?

I don't mean to sound like Confucius but...

Everything and anything has a story. You are a creative thinker; so think creatively.

Now, what kind of book? Technical, scientific, fiction, non-fiction, educational, etc.? If I would be of any help please feel free to contact me.

A SAMPLE of my past writing is quoted below:

quote:
Legislation: The Minimum Drinking Age Law

Aside from the baseless convictions made by those who impugn the United States? drinking age law as unfair, there is an undistorted truth to this Noachian controversy. During the late 1960s and early ?70s, a number of states experimented with a lower drinking age but the experiment failed to conform to common myths. In Canada and other countries today, the common legal drinking age is 18. Many would agree that adulthood starts at the responsible age of 18 but scientific research show otherwise, especially for Americans. Students of various academic classes tend to support a lower minimum drinking age without properly researching the matter. If today?s teenage generation knew the highly likely risks of the consummation of alcohol, our civilization?s future would be much brighter.

Despite few legislative efforts to lower or eliminate the minimum drinking age, a mighty percentage of the American population supports the current law. Two sides present their arguments as an issue of social acceptance and as a health issue...

Note: The above SAMPLE is not provided in its complete form and nor is it available for free use. Do not distribute beyond the confines of this thread.

That's pretty cool Wes. Always been a big fan of the site

The flubs and celebrity parts don't seem to fit, but all the rest would be great in a book. Maybe you could get them to fund some more trips to the places you haven't been able to get to yet

Texas Twisted seems like it would make a good book all on its own as well.

Good luck

.

(I'm having a little trouble figuring out what's supposed to sound like confucious, and what minimum drinking age legislation has to do with it though.... )

Groovy Wes!!

That's great that someone what's to make a book about your site!! What parts of the "The Big Waste of Space" would be great for a book? All of it, get as much as you can in the book and spread it over to Texas Twisted also. But as ramsaydesigns says "Everything and anything has a story" and they do. Look at "The Big Waste of Space" site and there's the a story on how it became what it is, the content, etc also the meaning behind it all and the creator of it can all be one story or just each have there own little story.

I think "The Big Waste of Space" is good but so is "Texas Twisted" so milk it try and made two books one about "The Big Waste of Space" and one "Texas Twisted". Than if all goes well you can write a book about yourself and incorporate them two book in "The Wes story" book. Just milk it all the way, I would.

But first wait and see what Frank says first then make a move!!!

Good luck Wes!!

Now that?s three great things I've seen now from this place. Shi winning that photo competition, Pugzly getting in the news and now this. Who says this place is full of shit needs a good ass kickin :-)

Well, I've given a bit of thought to "A Big Waste of Paper" ("A" sounds better to me than "The" with the book; don't ask why) ? a big collection of nonsequiter topics like the site. I'm not sure that would work well, though. A book probably needs a focus.

From the Desk of Simon Presley might work, but would never be as good the Lazlo letters. It's a Sign would be great, but I certainly don't have enough for a book.

Roadside travel would definitely be an option; like DL-44 suggested, I would have to get an advance to do some traveling. Hmm...rather than general roadside travel, I could focus on everything holding the title of the World's Largest. Actually, that's what I would probably do for a first Texas Twisted book ? call it "Everything's Bigger..."

I also thought about an idea I never got a chance to develop as a site: Acme Online. It was going to be a mock online catalog of all the stuff you see in cartoons: anvils, explosives, steamrollers, rocket rollerskates, etc. I could turn that into book form. Personally, I think that would be hilarious. It would be a perfect gift/coffee-table book.

DL-44: It's a sample of some report writing I've done in the past. With my limited accreditation, I have to rely on what's in my portfolio to land a gig.
