So I finally got around to reformatting my disk today. I'm reinstalling everything, finally. I've seen a lot of people here go through it and everybody tends to forget something, but I planned ahead But of COURSE - I miss one thing.

My fonts folder. Not a BIG deal, but now I gotta go download them again. Feel free to laugh at my misfortune, if you must.

krets - LMFAO.. scratch the tube sock. Somebody get him a baby footie

C:\ - Rub it in! I didn't realize it until I was reinstalling WinXP and saw a *.ttf filename flash by. Then it hit me, heh. *sigh* oh well. A good place to start are Weadah's pixel fonts. Would anybody be willing to help a fellow inmate and send me the link?

Edit: Thanks for the FAQ, all who helped out with it http://www.tryptych.net/asylum/tinyfonts2001.zip

I made sure to create a CD-RW that I use to keep all my fonts. Whenever I download new ones, I write them to that CD in case I ever need them again.

This after I lost the signature font I use for the title of The Big Waste of Space, which I can't find anywhere.

Went through this last week. Finally upgraded to Win 2k. After I had burned my last CD, I realized that I had 12 jpegs of family photos that needed to be archived. It's almost disgusting having a CD with a mere 12 pictures.

The only thing that I did forget to archive was my chatterbot files. After several months, I finally got my chatterbot talking decently. Now I have to start the teaching process all over again.

Fonts? I hope you don't have too many PSDs with certain fonts that you no longer have. That can be a real bitch.

Well, Raptor. . . to tell you the truth, I had that hard drive for about a month before I installed it. I kept going through my old hard drive and writing things down that I needed.

I even asked her for any suggestions before I did the install.

Even after I installed the new hard drive, I set the old one up as a slave drive and left it there for about 2 weeks and actually found some files that I needed and just copied them over. Some old VB projects that I had done and stuff.

well, I need to reformat my laptop and, not only does the A: not work, but the CD don't either- all I have is a USB CD-RW-- so I have no way to install an OS after any reformatting OP..... how's that?

so I thought I didn't forget something...but
öhhmmmm 300 pictures of mine (digiCam from
my father) are in hell.
No way to restore them....that was my crap

@raptor: I've got a font package if you interest
contact me please.
There about 700 plenty nice fonts (gothic, pixel,
modern, movie, etc.)
The package is something about 54mb...If you're
a lucky guy the one or other font is there!

I have a text file, named "Installing Windows XP" where I write all the steps I went through to get to the current state. So, if ever I need to reformat it, I just have to go through the same steps without having to think about each one again (ahd they are a lot too many!). Every new program I install, every new CD-key I use, every utility, every file downloaded from the Internet, every CD needed, etc, are mentioned in this text file. Now and then I make an image file of the entire partition (using Drive Image). The txt file and the image files are saved in different HDs. Also, important files are often burned to CDs. Also, all the programs are NOT installed in the same partition where Windows XP is installed. I have an exclusive partition for the installed programs (and I don't make images of this partition). This way I can keep the Windows XP partition smallest as possible and making the image is quick. The 'My documents' folder, the Oulook Express files folder and the Internet Temporary folder are not in the Windows partition. Also, if anything goes wrong while installing some stupid program, I just have to delete its folder from the Programs partition, restore my last valid image and also install all the programs installed since that last image was done. I don't trust Windows XP restoration point feature. I've seen it failure a couple of times, I trust in my images. Reformatting the HD and installing all the programs over is a pain so that's how I avoid problems.

However, not all of us are patient and/or organized enough to do that

I've tried to be real organized before, but it didn't last more than about a week. The first time was right after an entire website of mine was deleted by some "mysterious" happening with the server it was on... When I went through the folder that I had been keeping back-ups of all the files I was using at the time, I found that the most recently updated one of the bunch hadn't been touched in about 3 months... Granted, there wasn't a whole lot of stuff on the site, was basically just something I did a little work on every now and then, which over the period of 2-3 years translated into a good bit of work that I wasn't really looking forward to starting from almost scratch again...

uhh, what was the topic of this thread again?... Something to do with reformatting a HDD? Right....

I think I have re-formatted my disk three times during the last three months (was away from the comp of of those months, so that one can't count). After forgetting new stuff every time I have now started to make a back up of all my config files and work files once every week and then upload them to a server, I'm working of a script that will do this for me and when that is finnished I won't ever have to think about it again
