The Jukebox 3 is comin' out soon. I have a Creative Jukbox 6gig (the really old one that first came out) and I don't know why anyone would ever want to get rid of it. 'cept maybe for more space, mines gettin' pretty full. Tell if you find one you like better, I'd be interested.

warning - warning... netMD sucks a big one.

as a longtime user and promoter of the minidisc format i feel qualified in saying that netMD is a cool concept with horrible implementation for the time being. sony has severly crippled the functionality to the extent of disallowing one to upload sound files from their minidisc unit onto their computer. as sony has lately been pressing for even more stringent copy-protection features in hardware i'd venture to say that netMD will never reach its full potential.

if i were you i'd allocate an additional 75$ and purchase apple's 5gb ipod as it's easily the best solution on the market if you're interested in the mp3 file format. the great advantage of the ipod is that it uses a firewire connection which allows for download rates far superior to the usb offered by standard mp3 and netMD units. plus apple is the king of asthetics and your unit will be remarkably better looking, functioning, and designed when compared to ANYTHING else on the market.

and have any of you seen the bang & ollson mp3 player? what a DOG.

personally i'm never going to convert to mp3 because standard minidisc copies using modern atrac compression are much better sounding than anything you're going to ever get from an mp3. as for increased time on minidisc, they have introduced lp2 and lp4 formats which allow one to copy 160 and 320 minutes (respectively) of audio onto an 80 minute minidisc. while the lp2 format is somewhat acceptable with the compression being used bringing it quality-wise to the level of mp3s, lp4 is competely unacceptable if you're the type of person that would notice the difference between a movie on dvd versus a vhs that had been used 100 times.

big difference, know what i'm sayin?

and the idea of trying to use netMD to copy 16 hours of mp3s onto a single minidisc makes me cringe. sure you can do it, but like the tv says -- some guys don't do 39-cent tuesdays.

I agree with mikey... One reason I never brought any of sony's digital music players is their copyrighted protection and atracs very messy when working with those.

If you're looking for mp3s you're looking at the Ipod for the best right now on size and look... I like compact and remotes that's why I always look elsewhere but they are limited on size....

If you've ever seen the Nomad MuVo or MoVu whatever it's really compact in size... optional of 128mb or 64mb versions... the neatest thing is the compact and efficiency of this thing... the unit connects as a usb removable drive... drag a drop files and you're ready to go... wait a bit and Nomad should come out with something really awesome... I hope =D

hehe. well lets rant a little bit here:

i do own a sony netMD player. an MZ-N404 to be correct. and i love it!
and i do absolutely not hear any difference with the LP4 compression.
well, and if you still dont want it, just play normal MDs or LP2.
the cool thing is, you can make your own playlists now. i have about 6 albums on every disc grouped them in lists with the ablumname, so i can play them like a normal CD album.

the copyright protection? whats that? i can incheck/outcheck every mp3 i downloaded or every CD i ripped.

olsson, where did you read that with the 16hours?

and its called Bang & Olufsen

eeeeehrrm!
Well.....hmm It was 16 hours of recording time. ya sorry about that!
Its only 320 min of MDLP!

Schitzo: The main reason I'm switching is because of size and battery life!

I own a Sony NetMD n505 I tink it is, some times I run into that problem of not being able to checkin the song on the disc because it doesn't have the copyright info on it. If you have an mp3 though and can't check it in, I just use Winamp 2's ID3 tag editor to right copyright info in there so the software will check the song onto the disc . Iono its kindof a pain though, but for trance mmm its worth it, teehee. I love the battery life, and the sound quality I think is pretty good.
Anywho...

I've inherited a Diamond Rio 800, it sucks mightily. Everything on it is just fine except the battery, it says I have 11 hours after a charge and it will last 2 if I'm lucky.

Anybody know what I can do to extract vengeance on Diamon Rio oughta lemme know.

JKM I also own a Rio 800 and I agree with you... I found when you charge press play and let it play while it charge... ensure your play option is replay... and it actually charges to full...

Grumble if i'm not wrong your MD is also an order model of Sony so the protection thing shouldn't have applied... where I am older models are not available anymore... Olsson if you're looking for older versions check eBay for stuff
