The Doc also came forth in the aesthetics section:
http://www.the5k.org/winners.asp/y=2002/t=10

Aesthetics and function - now that has to be good

Commiserations to InI and Poi (or is it poidesign? I don't know) - I suspect there was some dodgy voting going on there but this should give you the incentive to really blow them away next year

The overall winner was a bit of an odd choice - I saw better.

Congrats Doc'

Emperor: that's POI

Some of the judges votes really puzzles me. I thought they would be harder to impress ( see most of the Fash entries, they are so... cheap, and looks so "Flash" )
For instance I don't understand how frutiger toy could have had the 1st place in orignality. Anyone that surfs the web a little has already seen that kind of thing hundred times, so where's the originality ?

Anyway, being honest to myself and seeing the public opinions I didn't expected to be in the top 5 of any category. But I thought WOLFENSTEIN 5K would came at least in the top 3 in originality.

well my opinion is surely biased. I guess I don't have same taste and sensitivity as the judges.

Whatever, I've already worked a couple of hours on 3D TOMB 2 and it's already bigger, better, faster than the 1st one. I hope I won't make the mistakes I did again.

Again, congrats Doc!

What was the contest about? It sounds like Flash games. If so I would've won every category. Not really. I've developing a Flash MMORPG with PHP4/MySQL.

Well, I was surprised and pleased to end up with the Overall #2 spot, that was cool. I also didn't really agree with some of the votes, the judges picked some strange things, and ranked things even odder. I actually snuck up the rankings a huge amount based on my size bonus, I only used 3k so I got a 4.3 point bonus! Without that I might not have even made the top 10. (As you already know, I'm a sneaky bastard, heh.)

I imagine the judges had a different definition of "function", I get the impression they were actually ranking "functionality", quite a different beast! This is the only way I can justify seeing 'Wolfentstein 5k' and 'Chess' ranked so poorly, just to mention the two most prominent. My scores were about what I expected, although I'm still chuckling about my 4.3 point jump, heh heh.

The "Overall winners" page is broken right now, it appears to be displaying last years winners in this years templates, hmm...

Your pal, -doc-

I can't believe a freaking flash piece won.

That takes so much less effort and skill.

I was kind of confused on some of the comments that were left there on your post Doc. Sounds like someone (or some people) were upset about "something". Anyway, Great Job!

I thought frutiger was really cool, but then I realized it was flash so it's not nearly as cool. I'm wondering, they don't take off any points for how much resources these things eat up, which I think they should personally. I think doc's was better than that frutiger one.
