I don't like Microsoft too much, and I don't like windows player.

My Girlfriend came to visit me here in Spain (reason why I'm very very happy, you know how these things are, but I'll post with pics in another moment) and she brough all my CD's. Off course that she won't give the CD's to me (girl power, they say) and I have to copy them, and I decided to record them into MP3 files.

The thing is that I noticed this great feature in Windows Payer which tells you the name of the song, the artist and all the CD info, based on the AMG (all music guide) web site. I just think that is great not having to fill by yourself all the CD info!!!!!

Any experience or knowing of aything like this with other program?
And you can tell me the bad thing (because there is ALWAYS a bad thing with MS)

hi wakkos

I am currently using Xing's Audiocatalyst
to convert audio files to mp3.
It is still good to use and the CDDB is included
as well.

You can convert the files up to 192kb so
its very powerful. not too much but still the functions
which are useful.

I also use Musicmatch Jukebox for things like that - it's free, easy to use and also gets CD info from CDDB.

I thought the bad thing about Media Player was that you could convert CDs to WMA only and not MP3. Maybe they've changed that in recent versions. Apart from that there shouldn't be anything bad with it.

Wakkos, every MP3 encoder / ripper that has support for CDDB database will be able to fetch CD data from the internet. One of the best programs is definitively CDex CD/Ripper music encoder...

My advice is to NOT use Windows Media Player to convert the files unless you have a way to convert them directly to mp3 format. The .wma format may have some copyright privileges and you may not be able to listen to your files in other computer. I never managed to make WMP record into mp3 file format. And I wouldn't use .wma format in any way. I'd stick to .mp3 format. And, since you want a good quality, use at least 160 kbps and NOT 128.
MusicMatch Jukebox is a good program but I've seen it fail in recording some songs where it introduced some flaws to the final .mp3 files. But this is a somewhat rare situation and, all in all, it is indeed a good converter, one of the best.
About CDDB, almost all good converters have support to it.
I use Sound Forge to convert my files. It doesn't have support to CDDB but it is the best converter I've ever seen. Actually, it is not a converter, but a professional program to deal with music. Convertion is just one of its features.
