Hey just an update for those that may be interested and maybe a warning for others so they dont fall into the samer trap as i did.

About 2 weeks ago now i posted that i would be offline for the forseeable future well finally got through some pretty heavy duty shit and got myself back online, so here is the brief version.

1. was working for a model agency over here doing web design, image processing graphic design etc.
2.set up o my own but kept aforesaid agency as a client.

so far so good, got lots of spin off work, life seemed rosey got myself a few clients nothing amazing but enough to get by.

anyway agency gets visit from software licensing bureau (piracy check!)

and guess what, they had shit loads of illegal software unbeknown to me, including all their microsoft windows and server software and a few others.

okay so how does this affect me you may ask, well as i was working freelance for the agency they decided to pay me a visit, and check out my home pc for illegal software (cool as their wasnt any on there ); however to do this they took everything away for testing...i mean everything, cdroms system the whole kaboose!! well i got it back today with a clean bill of health, and an apology and some compensation

however my client is being prosecuted to the fullest and as he is a foriegn national ie not czech he may lose his permit and business...

anyway as you can see i didnt drown in the floods we had here although at one stage some 75% of the country was under water (not my part thank god!) although it is still serious to the north of the czech republic.

so the moral of the story if ya doing work for clients make sure that they are legal, because if they find some stuff there they will come check out any freelancers that are tied into them, and if they pay you a visit and ya got illegal s/ware it not gonna be pretty picture

tomeaglescz: Glad to see you are back and haven't been washed away.

That all stinks as no-one could run a freelance business (and their life) with all their stuff impounded for a fortnight

emps thx for the welcome back

I was pretty lucky i guess that it took only two weeks but for a change i had stuffed money away in the bank rather than re investing it so had a cushion to fall back on and i have a great friend over here that let me use his pc to finish up on the oustanding work i had due to finish so all ended up ok.

as for the floods there are 70,000 homeless people here in the CZ that have had their homes destroyed and estimated damages run into 40 bn euro's (Yup that figure is correct) so when ya compare that kind of bad luck to mine i think i am extremely lucky, things are a real mess in other parts of the country so i will count my blessings and hope that some people will look at this thread and think seriously about using illegal software because if ya play with fire you WILL GET BURNED sometime. thx again and hopefully i will try and get round to doing some more stuff here

I'm glad to hear your ok tomeaglescz.

I've been wondering about other inmates over the past week or so living in that area... I hope their ok too. Although the really ironic part is that up until yesterday we were having a sever drought here, but the damage had already been done as about 90% of Queensland's farmers lost all of this years crop to it. Seeing is was about a month and a half before the big harvests it's gonna take time to recover.

Seeing all of that water in Europe and all of the bare farm crops in the one news report just confirmed my faith that the world does indeed suck major arse at times.

Oh and thanks for sharing that story about software piracy. I'm also quite impressed that your PC got a clean bill of health over it too. I'm almost certain that mine wouldn't be 100% legal, and most people I discuss software piracy issues with at University think I'm nuts for paying for most of it. Heh, I've even had arguments with some of my lecturers who've tried to justify the warez in a moral sense before. It's good to hear how harsh the legal system is to such ways of thinking. Hopefully people can learn something from that without going through a similar experience.

Most of all I'm just glad to hear that your ok and that your home is on dry ground. My best wishes to the other less fortunate people in your country.

Heh, yeah tomeaglescz, a lot of Germany is under water...but not Ostfriesland...at least, not yet! This reminds me of a few years back, when the flooding in the midwest states (America) took place. Many here actually sneered and laughed about it ('Why don't they just build Dikes, like us? That could never happen here! Stupid Americans!') Well, many of those who said that, are now having to suck up those words...

On the other side, it's pretty bad...the damage done is going in the billions, as well...and it is not over yet. Never underestimate the power of Mother Nature when she is mad.

Glad to hear that you have 'survived' your trials...way to go, tomeaglescz!

Apparently it's raining everywhere now. Some of you may have heard about the floods in Korea as well. Glad to hear things are OK, and while it may have sucked it could have been a lot worse, right? Welcome back to the looney bin!

Hey, quit hogging all the rain ya'll... Our yearly average rainfall here is about 9 - 10 inches, and so far we've got about 2... All the farms and pecan orchards around here really need about 10 inches from June through September if anyone plans to have their crop make anything...

little voice inside my head Be careful what you ask for...

When I read the subject line, I thought this was gonna be another thread like the guy complaining about getting speeding tickets for speeding (of all things )... Glad to see it's not, and glad to see it didn't turn out as bad as it could have for you tom.
