Try ICQ lite.

No ads. Yeahhhhhh!

Doesn't have all the features, but I never used some of them any way.

Trillian isn't that bad either. No ads and all IM types in one program

I downloaded ICQ Lite the other day. It's not bad at all.

I used Trillian for a brief period but for one reason or the other I didn't really like it.

icq lite is bad!
it doesnt support special characters like ö ä ü which are very often used in my language. and it lacks many other nice features like for example the message archive.

Ooohhh!!

I'd be dead meat without that message archive!!

That feature of ICQ has saved my butt a few times.

i use MSN every once in a while.... mebbe 20 minutes a week.

i've become so accustomed to Q now, that i don't really wanna use anything else. Hell, i don't even like updating.

Trillian isn't bad at all....
you just have to know how to use it first then you will like it.....

but I believe that no multi-IM software will really replace every single IM software...because ICQ in Trillian is less than ICQ Lite for example...

The only speical features I need is the history and support for a couple of special characters (æ, ø, å and then I'm happy. Trillian has that and since a couple of my friends won't change from MSN it is nice to have all IMs in one.

I'm stick AOL IM for work. But use ICQ Lite for everything else. Anything "official" with clients I usually require email so I havn't had much use for the message archive.

Grumble:
I use ICQlite and it has support for åäö. It also has an button named "autos save messages".
And it doesn't take a lot of time to download for modemers.

I'm still pushing Jabber Visit www.jabber.org to check it out, it's open source, it lets you send IM's to any of the major services and you have a lot of great clients to choose from so you can find one your really like. If you are used to the ICQ format then you will probably like the Psi client.

olsn:
when i type my öäüs then they get displayed but the person on the otherside doesnt recieve them.

yes, you can save the messages but only in textfiles and not in the message archive database like in real icq.
