Dear Sir/Madam,

A few months ago you opened an account with us to host your website"myoldaccount .f2g.net". As most of our users you probably don't have a lot of money to spend onhostingbut expect a minimum set of features such as server-side scripting (CGI,PHP,...), and no annoying ads or pop-ups on your pages. You probably also expectserver reliability, efficient customer support and some other extra features suchas MySQL support, FrontPage extensions or even Cold Fusion.

We are contacting you today to introduce you to what is probably thebest hosting deal in history... ever! Please take a few minutes to read thismessage and you will understand why.

The web hosting sector has become more and more competitive these last months and, as a result, professional web hosting has been made availableto small businesses, clubs and individuals. Many webhosts now offer hostingpackages for less than $10 per month. Unfortunately, these low-cost packages are oftentoo limited or unreliable.

Infinology, one of the largest premium hosting provider, voted #1 host on cnet for more than 13 consecutive weeks and winner of numerous awards,is offering you, for a limited time only, the chance to get premium-classhosting, including:

... for as low as... $6.95/month!! That's the best premium hosting package you'll ever get... for theprice of a pizza!

We thought we should drop you a line about it...

This is a unique offer from Infinology ending this Sunday (or evenbefore), that's why we said this was urgent! Moreover, this offer is only available through the "secret" link below:

Infinology Smart Consumers - Special Offer for $6.95/mo with ending this Sunday

(This is no joke either: this offer is only available through the above-mentioned link. If you visit Infinology's website using the www.infinology.com usual URL youwon't be able to benefit from this exceptional offer.)

Please feel free to share this unique opportunity with your friends, colleagues or family by forwarding them this announcement!

Hmmm looks about as above board as these things can be (before the horror stories start flooding in). f2g have the offer on their front page:
www.f2g.net

which eventually leads to:
http://smartconsumers.infinology.com/secrethosting.html

Unless they've both been hacked or there is something in the deal I haven't spotted then there doesn't seem to be anything sinister at work (famous last words).

[edit: An odd thing - massacre's email doesn't contain the secret URL.

GRUMBLE: I don't know if you picked it from the GN but the guy who runs is a regular at the GN - always handy knowing your host ]

[edit2: That price is only for one year so they might get their money at the end of that time ]

What is so strange about it?
There are many hosts out there who offers a lot of space/e-mail addresses etc.

Of course they are counting heavily on that noone will ever use that much space.
I would not be surprised that if you read their terms and conditions carefully there will be some clause about how you are not allowed to use your account for storing files for download, but that everything needs to be part of a web site.
Myself I have "unlimited" bandwidth and e-mail accounts with my host. Though I realize that it is not truly unlimited, and if my page starts to generate tens or hundreds of GB in transfer, they'll find a reason to terminate my account, or try to get more money from me.

stuff is really cool looking $2.95 ! hmmmmm. . .

Emps, who is it at Guru's that has this company?
