hello,

if you work for a company, and you work as a gfx designer...

the company asked you to make such challenging designs, but now the company is only asking you to make dummy 3d buttons.

you start feeling uncreative and bored day by day...

what do you do in such cases?
1.leave your work?
2.meet the boss and tell him we don't want to do such silly work?
3.accept the fact and do the silly job
4.......

your opinions please.

Is the silly work, easy work?
If so...

I'd get the silly shit done as quick as possible, and I go back to working on my self-driven, more in-depth projects.

Then I'd find some creative way of letting the boss see some of the work I've done in my "off-time".

And I'd keep going about my business.

well.. mebbe i wouldn't do all that.
mmm.. mebbe i would.
i dunno.

Michael is right...first, do the work. After all, it's part of your job...

Then maybe an appointment with your boss...and ask him. Maybe there is a reason for it...maybe there are things happening in the company you are not aware of...maybe your boss has a different view of your skills...who knows? Best to find out. Just ask him...but do it diplomatically.

The poster has demanded we remove all his contributions, less he takes legal action.
We have done so.
Now Tyberius Prime expects him to start complaining that we removed his 'free speech' since this message will replace all of his posts, past and future.
Don't follow his example - seek real life help first.

All good advice but if you keep getting handed stuff like this cause there's on-one else to do it or there's simply no other work to do then you should talk to your boss about it.

Tell him that you feel your skills are going to waste and that you could be doing work of a significantly higher calibre. Also try and find out why work like this is coming through. Is there anything you can do about it? Maybe you can help steer the company towards clients that are more likely to land you with some uber cool shit to do. Maybe the boss will let you pump out some new promotional material for your company or re-work some magic into the companies webby so you can land those higher profile clients that have the $$$ to pay for not just design, but good design.

I had a similar problem once. I once worked as a civil design drafter. However, that was shit boring and at the time design and the web was my biggest hobby. I was slowly coming to the decision that I was working in the wrong area so I told my boss about it. I basically told him I'd be leaving to do further uni studies within a year but over that year he would come to be when he wanted any kind of aesthetics related opinion. I also go to design all of the proposal covers and to generally oversee the layout of most outgoing documents of a graphical nature.

If I never talked to him about it then my last year working there would have been hell boring.

Michael:
* The silly work is so easy, that I'm copy/pasting from other projects i did ;(
* Off-time ? you mean the time @ home ?
I do stuff @ home/off-time other than web developing -> desktop apps developing

Ini:
your case seems close to mine!

what should I say about it?

My boss knows my capabilities but doesn't know how to evaluate ideas.
For example, A client comes and asks for a site that has a pic gallery, guestbook, and other stuff...
my boss finds that as a hard task and assigns it to me instead of assigning it to the other developers whose skills can't be compared with mine.

The Job pays well, but sometimes I can't do boring stuff over and over again.
My boss knows that I want new and creative work, but he says: what if we don't have such tasks? do we throw all the work on the other developers while you sit and do nothing? someone has to do it!

There is no reason for why I'm getting this work assigned to me other than: "Someone has to do it!"

Now I'm about to take yet another project that is *so boring* that I feel like shouting and saying NO thanks! I don't want it!

I'm confused...

No, by "off-time", I am referring to the time in the work day, that is left over because you are tasked with simple projects.

I'd just work on my "at home" type projects......... at work.

but hey... i'm in the military... i've got job security for the time being.

Well, as an outsider, I would say "Quit whining about a few boring tasks." Finding a job doing what you`re doing is fairly difficult, and I would love to have it. ( one like it, not necessarily yours ) Your chances for creativity will return. If they don`t soon, well, as far as I`m concered, you have a dream job.
You could be stuck making toothpics out of logs, in a hot , dusty, potentially dangerous environment, with low pay and no benefits.
So, in short, do the boring stuff, and do it the best you can. Be creative in finding ways to keep your creativity alive.
And be happy about it.
