Preserved Topic: weird email happening (Page 1 of 1)

Hi all,
Any ideas on this weird email happening? I have 4 accounts all accessed by outlook. The last few weeks I?ve received email from one account about ?Returned mail:user unknown?. I never sent the mail and don?t recognize the address so I just trashed the first couple. The last one I noticed has 2 attachments.
ATT00001.dat is 223 bytes and AOLlogo.style.posleft is 1k. No, I never opened the attachments.
Is this a virus? I ran a virus check and it looks clean. The account is on my DSL line which has a static IP. Have I been hacked?

dave s: As far as I can tell it sounds like someone is sending spam using your address in the 'reply to' slot - it happens. Report it to your provider and send them the emails (as attachments) and they should be able to confirm that you aren't the origin and will pos. follow up the providers of the actual offenders.

If anyone contacts you about your sending spam refer them to your provider or tell them to send the emails to thier provider (as an attachment) and they should be able to confirm that you didn't send them.

Yah, I got something similar recently recently. I also noticed a bunch of emails with the subject "Returned mail:user unknown" in my hotmail account, but i just ingored them... I've never actually used that account (only signed up for MSN/Trillian) but for some reason it accumilates heaps of spam. Myst be a hotmail thing.

I have received some emails like that.
IMO, it's just another way to call our attention and to force us read the message and, sometimes, execute some attached message with a virus or something.
I just delete them all.
