I even modify the config and restart it from the sharing prefs all the time.   What happens when you try to view a page in a browser?  It should at least show a default page.  If you type in say http://127.0.0.1  or http://localhost  it should give you the default apache page with a link to the manual.  If you do the above URL with /~username then you get the X icon with a heading that says "Your Website Here".   |
