I thought this might be good for a bit of a laugh.

quote:
During her work with Mark II, Grace Murray Hopper was credited with coining the term "bug" in reference to a glitch in the machinery. This story is apparently a bit of computer folk-lore, however, as the term had already been used by Harvard personnel for several years to describe problems with their computers. It is the case that she and her team of programmers did find a moth which flew through an open window and into one of Mark II's relays, temporarily shutting down the system. The moth was removed and pasted into a logbook [Photo of that bug]. At that time the use of the word "bug" referred to problems with the hardware. In the mid 1950's, Hopper extended the meaning of the term "debug" to include removing programming errors.

I kinda wish the bugs we had to work out today were as obvious as this.

Think we should use a can of RAID to get rid of him? Although I'm kinda partial to SCSI myself though...

Is this going to be the topic full of really bad computer jokes now?
shudders at the mere thought of it

<edit: Wow, that really was a poor attempt at humor... I think I fried a part of my brain on that Discrete Math test I just took. Luckily, about 15 minutes before class, I was reminded we had it this evening, which gave me just enough time to scan through one page of notes... >

phfff, Discrete... Man, all we're doing now is logic problems - SNOOZEFEST... I shouldn't complain though, I hate math and I hope it stays this easy (of course it won't...damn).

Oh my God, Discrete Math, don't say that, man. Brings up bad memories. I'm going to start having nightmares again.

Yea, it's not bad unless you aren't paying attention the class before the test. In my case, I had already done the work a few days earlier that the prof was just explaining last Wednesday. It wasn't too hard, even considering I had to re-teach myself what an Euclidian Algorithm was and how to show relative primes with it. Only real problem I had was a couple of binary divisions that were non-repeating. Then the only other one I remember being a pain was "Find the 8-bit 2's complement representation of 28 - 65." Obviously the answer should be -37, but I kept getting -39. I think I added where I should have subtracted or something... Oh well.
