I seem to have rottern luck with e-mail programs.

Outlook was working fine up untill the other day when now I get this error every time I try and send an email:

The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'user@host.com'. Subject 'Mail not workie!', Account: 'mail.whatever.net.au', Server: 'mail.whatever.net.au', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 <user@host.com>: Recipient address rejected: Relay access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

So umm.. what dat mean?

I can still receive emails but I just can't send anything to anyone outside of whatever.net.au. I haven't installed any kind of software lately that could possible screw this up and my friends who also use whatever.net.au don't seem to be having this poblem.

Oh, it's an IMAP server it that helps.

Any ideas? I swear, email programs hate me. They always get broke and many heated words usually follow.

Ya got me there. I don't use Outlook--I've come to understand that it is the spawn of Satan. Sorry I can't be any help.

[Edit: amazing how you can screw up a one-line post...]

You put "mail not workie!" as the subject. Is this what it actually says or did you just put that in there yourself?

Now, what address are you sending from? Is it something other than your default ISP's address? Some ISPs block port 25 for any email other than the one they provide in order to prevent spammers from using their service.

No no. The recipant and subject have been changed.

My ISP is www.powerup.com.au but I use www.whatever.net.au for mail and web hosting.

"Some ISPs block port 25"

But but.... it was working just the other day ... Ok ok, I'll go hassle my ISP and see if their blocking Port 25. Thanks slime. Your a legend!

Outlook or Outlook Express? Whichever the case it sounds like you may have inadvertently checked a "my server requires authentication" checkbox or somesuch in your accounts settings. Check in tools/options/accounts/the troublesome account/servers tab for stuff regarding authentication (that path may vary slightly depending on prog and version), most don't require any. That's the only bell going off in this tired head.

The first thing that comes to mind is authentication for SENDING email. In Outlook go to Tools>Email Accounts>View or Change Existing Email Accounts>Change>More Settings>Outgoing Server and see if checking that top box helps.

On our servers, we require that you authenticate to SEND as well as RECEIVE. It helps stop email relaying.
