Is there any page or service that lets us modemers keep idle when we are offline.
So I can stay OP in some channels

im not irc expert, but im afraid that this is not possible, since the server has to ping you all the time to see if you are still here. otherwise it would get a ping timeout and you will be set to disconnected.

I'm not a MIRC expert either..... but I'm a pretty frequent user.
But like Grumble said..... it's just not possible, I don't think.

I don't particularly see what the big deal would be about it.
If the channel creator wanted you to be an operator all the time, he'd just add you to the list.... no?

Well i'm not very good at IRQ either but wouldn't it be a must to have a password for my nick then?
Or else anyone could reg as my nick and enter the channel and become an OP.

edit aha!

well first: did you talk to the channel operator that made you OP about that, yet?

second: dont you have a password yet? most common IRC-channels support registering nicks using a nickserv.

Well this is just an small channel and they have no such thing.
It will be gone in a couple of months anyway so it's really not that important.

mmm... so why are you asking?
(just curious)

and if it's mirc.... i'd doubt that you couldn't use nickserv to register your username.
it's like.... /nickserv register PASSWORD .... or something along those lines.

*shrug*
I dunno.

Well I wanted to know if "staying idle in mirc" was possible.
And it wasn't but I got my answers anyway.

Grumble/Michael: I'm op in that channel now. I just have to
authorize with q first then it works!

It just a temporary channel to use for an bus-ride to dreamhack!

A few things about mIRC....

first you will need to register a handle (nick)
then after your handle is registered you have to authenticate everytime you open IRC.
after that is done if someone has givin you ops in a channle it will remember accroding to your handle and hostmask and will op you everytime you join.

im not sure what network your on or if there all the same, but im on gamesnet everyday and its really not that difficult. whatever server your on they have to have a website that can help you do what you need to do. do a search...

you can go here and it will give you the basic commands to reg your nick and how to authenticate when you join.

its a simple message like /msg authserv@gamesnet.net auth "nickhere" "passwordhere" now depending on what network you are on that message will be different.

in your options there is a perform tab, this is great for auto joining channels and authenticating right when you join IRC

so in the perform box you would put something like this

/msg authserv@gamesnet.net auth "nickhere" "passwordhere"
/join #ozone
/join #GraFFix
etc

then everytime you open up IRC it goes thru that and less work for you. its a little overwhelming at first but once you know the basics its actually very simple.

anything else just ask

OlssonE, I understand you problem...especially when you log to EFnet servers where you can't register your nick or even a channel...

I'ld see a solution for this is to write a small bot that guards the channel for you when you leave. This bot most be hosted by someone that can always be online.
if your hosting provider allows you to run daemons, then you can host that bot on their servers..

Hope that helps.
