Ok, I'm not shy. I'll go first.

Hi, my name's Norm and I've been a compulsive coder for....well, I've kinda lost track of time. It's easy to do that sitting in front of the glowing screen. I used to have a Life. But now I can barely bring myself to stop long enough to eat, or to shower. Sometimes I can fall asleep, but then the dreams come; conditionals, classes and methods everywhere. Occasionally there will be people in my dreams, but I usually end up putting them into an array and accessing them with a for-loop. My significant other has left me, and my dog just growls at me now. I don't know what to do. I tried a 12 step group the other day, but when they counted the steps, starting at 1, I knew it wasn't for me. Then I tried to quit cold turkey, managed to stop just long enough to get in a couple of games of Quake, then it was back to the DOM.

Please, I've got to know, has anyone out there beaten this yet?.........

when I know everything, will my brain
stop hurting so much when I code?

I've been a coder since I was 12 and got my first computer. It was a TRS-80. All my friends had a C-64, but not me.

I would literally disappear into my own little realm during the weekends. I wrote text adventures, mostly. I was creating my own worlds with my own rules. I was a god in my own right. In school, they wouldn't let me take computer classes. Well, they did, but they were independent study. I guess my reputation preceded me for some reason. I used to piss-off the instructor by writing lateral code. You know, code that looked like it wouldn't work, but did anyways. Man, he used to get so mad.

Then I got mself a woman and started a family. That pretty much put an end to my hardcore days.

Beaten it?

You don't beat it. You just conform, then you end up at an asylum.... much like this one really. Welcome to the club

If you continue like that you'ld probably develop a physical problem or a disease...
so unwillingly these last two will force you to change your lifestyle.
