Sorry... this should be in the main forum... unless of course someone here can deal with it. I don't know what the hell's going on at the moment.

This is very strange. Earlier today while at the Asylum I clicked the link to Ozone and up popped a 'Hypermart' Window. I closed it... clicked Ozone again... and connected to Ozone...

Just a few minutes ago I posted a reply in the sig forum without a problem but when I tried to post a reply in 'Phil and Sil' another pop up.. same place...and my reply didn't get posted.

Also I have a 'blank' IE window with this in the address bar http://www.ozoneasylum.com/cgi-bin/postings.cgi

But when I look at the source of the blankpage with that address I get
this... In part...

<!-- ads begin -->
</noscript>
<!-- -->
</noscript>
<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript" LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--
// set expiration to 3 minutes
var expiration = new Date(); expiration.setTime(expiration.getTime() + 180000);

function getCookie(name){

Etc. I still have the source if someone needs it...

Anyway... I just 'refreshed' the blank page... the Asylum returned but so too did the bloody pop up. Any ideas.

The recent Big change to my system would be a cable connection...dialup gone... anything there. This is very weird...and obviously unacceptable!! My usual <bg> is now a <fBf>

NJ: When this kind of problem occurs its usually something to do with a virus or an application you've installed (pos. unwittingly). Try running adaware.

I'll move this to the main forum too.

I Certainly hope that's not the case because I just updated adaware and ran it - PLUS I just installed new virus detection and it's running. Ohwell... <g>

I brought this up awhile ago...and yes, it's the Hypermart 'pop-up' alright. Now, I'm not pointing any fingers here, but I did notice that InSiDeR either was or is using Hypermart...a strange connection?

I have it too...but at work, not at home. Now, here at work, we got some great firewall/virus protection...so I dunno...and believe me, it sure causes a problem sometimes with archiving/deleting a thread. The thread that I posted down in the basement was caused by this very thing. Now that someone else has finally got the same prob too, I know that it isn't just me. Just for the record...it doesn't happen on any other site that I surf (and yes, I surf others, when I'm not here...and at work, too).

I don't think the standard 'well, it's in your computer' answer is correct. Could it be that someone? has snuck some stuff into our forums, using some kind of 'freaky' code inside of the asylums? I think Ini showed that something like that could be possible...

Could be a way of getting money, or something?

Someone get Ini down here...to take a look at this. Because if someone purposely did this...and it is here in the asylum...GRRRRR!

I get that sometimes. I hit 'Submit Reply and I get a hypermart pop up and my message doesn't go through. Anoys hte fck out of my cause something in IE 6.0 deletes the contents of the text box when I go back, so i have to retype everything.

Looks like the doc's server might have someohw gotten a virus which is doing it.

I hope not.

Ok, it really looks like it's here, in the Asylum...Bug Hunt!!!!

(not meaning you, Bugs...)

Where is it?

Has anyone notified the Doc? Rouse all the coders...let's find out where this thing is coming from...and kill it. Dead.

Come to think of it...maybe it is running only with a certain browser...I use IE 5.5 here at work. I notice that when the pop-up comes, it 'explodes' the asylum...somehow 'taking' the 'head' area of the asylum over...and the text then 'corresponds' to the pop-up terms...hmmm. Maybe that is why some get this, and others don't.

OK Just ran lava soft and it did indeed find a suspicious cookie from double click. That must have been dropped on my system within the past 10 hours or so. We'll see if removing it... stops the annoyance.

It's been a frustrating few days. I've hooked up to what the local cable company calls "lightspeed" _ Roughly 5 times faster than dialup...on the request and upload is approximately 8k. Cost is the same as dialup. So here I'd been looking forward to this faster connection and the first thing that happens when setting up our new email addie.. and I mean the *first* thing... I get spam. Now as unbelievable as it may seem only once before have we received spam. It was that Nigerian letter scam. Immediately after setting up the new account there was new mail... the nigerian twice and one piece from a porn site. Now that was already in the inbox waiting. How the hell does that work?
Anyway... that... plus a bunch of other software crap.... kinda taken the joy outta the 'fast-ER'
connection. <g>

Probably has something to do with the 'Pop-up'...or maybe not. Maybe the 'Pop-up' also 'scans' for E-Mail addresses...

WS: I've checked and InSiDeR is still running his account from hypermarket:
http://insidershak.hypermart.net/sig.pl

and I suspect it might be that causing the problems.

InSiDeR: Until we track down the problem could you kill the images in your sig please?

[edit: Oh and I'm not seeing any of this using IE6 - I have an ad killer but not a popup killer so I'd notice]

Hhmm... I've never had that before while in the ozone or the Asylum.

If it's true about what NoJive said about the cookie from double click I think some of you who use IE mostly for surfing around should look at IE-SPYAD.

----- From the site --------------------

IE-SPYAD is a Registry file (IE-ADS.REG) that adds a long list of known advertisers, marketers, and spyware pushers to the Restricted sites zone of Internet Explorer. Once IE-ADS.REG is "merged" into your Registry, most direct marketers and spyware pushers will not be able to resort to their usual "tricks" (e.g., cookies, scripts, popups, et al) in order to monitor and track your behavior while you surf the Net.

-------------------

Might help a lot in the cookie advert areas. I use it and it works fine in IE6, even tho some sites like ICQ.com, real.com and others are blocked all you have to do is un block them to download stuff you want. After using IE-SPYAD the amount of crap (adverts, cookies, etc) form ad sites have been cut down about 90%.

So use it if you like, I do!!

But it should be somewhere on my system ...no? I've done a search on all files created during the past day but so far no can find. Any suggestions? In the meantime I'll keep searching.

Take up Raptor's kind offer and we'll see if the problem goes away or not - if not then we need to dig a little deeper.

Actually, I mentioned this a while ago...don't know when I first noticed it. Back then, it just got 'blown off' as some sort of adware on the computer at work. I am really starting to think that it is browser specific.

I don't get it here at home...and I use a different browser at home.

Now, I'm not saying that it is you, InSiDeR. It is just a strange coincidence, maybe? But sure is sure...if you change, and it goes away...well, I guess that proves that it is...

And if someone has done this on purpose....
