Preserved Topic: The all new XHTML Wired (Page 1 of 1)

Personally I think it's kinda ugly, however that being said, Wired.com just redesigned and went with an entirely XHTML compliant look. NO TABLES.

Pretty cool, I hope it starts a trend.

I don't know about "ugly," but definately something close to that... Still pretty cool though.

Yep ugly - too many colours, distracting movement and that mass of balck just sucks the life out of the page.

Top marks for getting a complicated design working though.

Yeah, cought a link to this over at wasp just before. I'd have to go with ugly too.

Start a trend? I thought all of us doing non-table layouts had already started a trend and this was kinda the proof that it was catching on.

We do on our sites but this is the first enterprise level site I've seen make the plunge. Most of the really big sites have slowly phased in CSS but in a way that degrades nicely in older browsers.

Yeah, I was just thinking about that actually.

It's also nice to see them making use of some of the features XHTML can offer like the font size selector. If any other network sites follow suit then hopefull the examples set forth by wired will we copied, and that can only be a good thing seeing sites using CSS to set text sizes render the MSIE Text Size option useless.

They also mentioned that they were still playing around with the site colours, so maybe it won't end up being as ugly as it is now.
