Okay, windows is great for runnin hundreds of apps when you are not looking right?

I need allllll my cpu for Premiere... How or What little programs can i stop or end? Is there any way to make it run fastah?

                                     

I have tested the tip of running msconfig to disable services, startup programs, etc., and I found that I could get 1-3% more of CPU processing power.
So, I found it is not worth the trouble to disable those background processes (not to mention the risk of disabling an essential service).
What you can do, in my opinion, is what you surely is already doing: just run Premiere alone, with no other at the same time.
If you go to the Task Manager, you can see that, when you're machine is idle, there is no process eating up CPU cicles, even with the dozens of services on.
If you want it to be faster, you need a faster machine. If you already have the ultimate machine, you need to be patient...

Oh, by the way, stop listening to your favorite music in winamp while working with Premiere

Open up task manager, find the premier in the processes tab. Right click, and set priority to high, or real time. (Real time causes it to use approx. 99% of your CPU power while it thinks, which may not be the best option in this case).

Silly bells-n-whistles can go as well.
Like font smoothing, show window content while dragging, etc.
I've seen those silly things really drag a cpu through the mud.

Uhmm, I have my doubts.
These sort of enhancements are not supposed to take too much relative power from a Pentium III or 4. These CPUs are too powerful for these features and so, I guess that, as I said before, 1 or 2 % of their power is more than enough to do all the job. And who cares about 1-2% ? Well, I don't. I don't think it's worth to turn off all the beauties from Windows just to make it 1-2% faster.
For instance, if Premiere is working but you are doing absolutely nothing at the same time with the computer - you are just watching Premiere render a movie, or eating some popcorn, etc., the feature "Show contents of the window while dragging" is not on, because you are not moving a window at that time, so, no power of the CPU is being used in the feature. If you are moving a window, then you surely don't want all the power of your computer only to Premiere.
You do must take care with some background activities that can take place without you knowing about it, like some that Norton programs add to the Task Scheduler (One button check, bla bla...), a program that every now and then verifies if you have received new message, instant messenger, etc...
When I want full attention to one and only program, sometimes I even disable my Internet activities using ZoneAlarm.
