Hi all,

I sent in the screenshot and here's how I managed it:

To get Photoshop and Imageready running you need the registry of a real Windows installation. Just copy c:\windows\system.dat to the Windows directory on your fake windows installation.
Type wine setup.exe to install the programs.

After that copy the following native Windows files to your system directory:

- setupapi.dll
- sti.dll
- cfgmgr32.dll
- commctrl.dll
- comctl32.dll
- shell.dll
- shell32.dll
- commdlg.dll
- comdlg32.dll
- shlwapi.dll

Go to the installation directory and type wine -dll shell,shell32,commtrl,comctl32,commdlg,comdlg32,shlwapi=n photoshp.exe to start Photoshop.

Use wine -dll shell,shell32,commtrl,comctl32,commdlg,comdlg32,shlwapi=n imageready.exe to start Imageready.

I hope you enjoy your copy :=)

Does this mean we are a-go?

Looks almost to good to be true Does anyone with Linux installed feel like trying it out?

Well, if you read futher on down the postings, on sees that it only seems to work with PS5.5...which leaves me out.

Also, though one can install it on this Crossweaver office, the program PS doesn't run with preferences, and other problems.

So, though it is possible to install PS under Wine, it doesn't work 100%...

Not quite ready, but they are getting there!

Why doesn't Adobe just create a PS version for Linux? Do they love M$ so much?

Oh, and thanks for the link, PS.

Webshaman, I beleive that PS started out on MAC and then moved over.

A lot of times, Adobe will respond to user suggestions. Maybe if we just bombard them enough with NICE emails on how we would love to have PS for Linux, they would respond.

Inition, you are very welcome for my help. I can't do it very often but when I can I am willing to help. Bad thing is, I used Mandrakes site to check my hardware. http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/fhard.php3

Like I said, there just isn't the demand for Photoshop in Linux. Linux users would want a free version and Adobe just isn't willing to do that, and you can hardly blame them. It isn't a big deal though. As we've already discussed theres alternatives such as Gimp, emulators and wine, and you can always dual boot.

If you search the internet you can find a how-to for Photoshop on just about any version. It generally isn't worth it IMO. With HDs being so big today, your just better off dual booting.

here is my printing error when I try using "cups"

A print error occured. Error message received from system:

/usr/bin/lpr -P 'lp0' '-#1' '/usr/share/apps/kdeprint/testprint.ps' : execution failed with message:
Get_local_host: hostname 'x1-6-00-a0-cc-7a-31-60' bad

Thats when I tried to print a test page. Whats this telling me? Is this saying my computer name is wrong, so it doesn't know who to print for?
